New MEA Uniforms - Ugh!

Sat Mar 05, 2005 11:07 pm

Just flew MEA BEYDXB and the airline has introduced new uniforms. I had heard bad things about them but they were pretty ghastly. I wish I had a picture to post.

As if MEA's branding wasn't poor enough - there are already too many colors going on. The exterior of the aircraft is white with a beautiful green cedar tree on the tail, with MEA in red, green and blue lettering.

Let's stick with max TWO colors, please. What is blue doing there?

You get on board and EVERYTHING is blue - the seats, the tablecloths, the napkins, even the bags the headsets come in. It is more like Air France than MEA.

Now they introduce a new uniform for the FAs and what color is it? Turquoise! Aaaarrrggghhh! And the aprons? Camel!

On the plus side, the coats are nice, and the blouses under the uniforms are great (despite their turquoise color).

The aprons are ridiculous, though, and one FA told me they were being changed. They look like something one would wear to an S&M bar

So now MEA's colors are GREEN, RED, BLUE, TUQUOISE and CAMEL.

Has anyone else seen them?

You can see the F/A's in this photo with their aprons on during the meal service.

you can't really see how ridiculous the aprons are from the picture.

from the FA in the back right of the picture, the camel straps that look like suspenders are really the apron. the apron actually scoops under the bust area like those 1970s ski outfits and thrusts the chest out (can i say "boobs" on a.net?). what were they thinking?

you can see the blouses - they are very nice, but there is not a single visible skirt in the picture.

there is endless coverage of the new outfit in the CEDAR MILES magazine, but the magazine pictures make the uniform look light blue rather than turquoise.

It's not that ugly... kmon be objective. I didn't like it much, but the best combination is for the camel aprons with the underneath blouse. The Turquoise color is ugly... i agree.

As for the seats, it has nothing to do with MEA colors. They have chosen the blue color cuz it's very comfortable for the eyes. Imagine flying for, say 6 hrs in a cabin full of red and orange colors (like the old seating colors!!). Frankly speaking, I liked this blue color. At least it's more comfy than the colors of other airlines.

Speaking of the logo colors, I think blue matches green better than red! Imagine the logo with red and green only? It will look like the lebanese flag (huh!!  Smile)

I think they should introduce the old uniforms with some refinements. the new uniform gave me the impression of flying a low-cost or a charter flight!!

Reg'ds...

Many MEA cabin crew are sexy independently from the uniform (or lack of it dare I say?). However the new color is indeed a bit blunt.

Not as stylish as one would expect from a fashion trend centric country. They remind me of Turkish Airlines uniforms and cabins, expect that in their case I sort of understand the turquoise choice more than in MEA's.

Yes, Cedar Class I think is almost completely blue. Very little turquoise.

And yes, the new MEA uniforms are absolutely horrible...

I agree that their new Uniform is not the best, it was about time to change ! and it couldn't be worse than the old one...  Sad
In any case, it is not worse than DL's , AA's, or AZ's F/A uniform...

AF022, I agree about MEA's livery. Except the pale Cedar on the tail, it lost most of the Lebanese identity... and note the similarity with ...

Everybody has his own taste: Les gouts et les couleurs ne se discute pas!
The uniform has the same color as the Economy seats.
It takes some time to get used to color. But you have to compare it to the previous dark blue uniform and this one is much nicer.
Shoes, bags, coats are all Havane color. They just introduced a new scarf that look nice with the uniform.Their is also talk of a Hat being designed!!

Where do you see the similarity, except that both are Airbus? I don't see it. The font, body and Engine colors are different, no Arabic title on MEA, besides, MEA airplanes don't carry names.

The logo on the engine... and the letters style in the name is the same. The airline name is also exactly at the same place on the fuselage...

Both ME and RB previous liveries were totally different...

The new Syrian Air colors were introduced after the new MEA colors and I remember that those resemblances were the first thing I noticed... maybe just my imagination.... confused

I also don't think the liveries are similar, but I think he meant the way the MEA and Syrian titles look similar and how they have very similar placement on the fuselage - but on the other hand, MEA's arabic titles are at the back, and it is IMO completley different from the Syrianair livery, with the exception of the title.

" NOW taking place" ???  eek

The Lebanese/Syrian political affair has been taking place for 25 years !  box

But this is another story...

I do still think that there is some sort of similarity in ME and RB cold & sad livery's look ... and politics has nothing to do with this.

Couldn't agree more  Smile RB Introduced their c/s just after MEA did so. and ya, if you look at the details, they look much the same. the fonts used, the way they display the logo on the engine nacelle, they have even added some colors to the winglets. Since they didn't find any combination of colors to add to the winglets (like that of MEA), they painted the flag!! Too silly. Cyprus Airways copied the same design as well!

Speaking of MEA colors, well I started to get used to it... Frankly, I started to like it cuz it created a beautiful identity to MEA (esp the rounded cedar tree). Now you can spot the acft anywhere easily.

Btw, why didn't MEA publicly announce the introduction of new uniforms like other airlines do? They have bad marketing strategies.
