Any Caravelles Left In The World?

Sun Apr 02, 2000 9:15 pm

Hi! The Caravelle is a rather old airplane, of which the first example flying a scheduled flight was registered in Norway (LN-KLH) and is now displayed at the Norwegian Technical Museum in Oslo. But I wonder if there is any Caravelles left in the world today? Are any of these flying commercial flights?

There are a few examples still flying in Africa (Congo) I believe. There is also an organization in Scandinavia that is trying to restore an ex- SAS aircraft to flyable condition but this might be the same aircraft you mentioned. Chris

I know of AeroSucre of Colombia still fly cargo ta Curacao, Netherlands Antilles. About 3 times a week.
Also another Colombian cargo company also flew it until some time back. But now they fly the 727-100 over, so I don't know if they retired their caravelles.

There is an Airborne Express Caravelle parked on a small field at Port Columbus. The aircraft is owned by a small avaition museum located on the airport. Recently, however, the musuem announced it would move its exhibits to the Ohio Historical Society and Museum closer to downtown. I'm not sure if the Caravelle will stay at the airport, go to the museum, or be disposed of.

Hi there,

There are two very well in shape Caravelles still flying in Ganbon. They belong to Gabor Express they are used for domestic services.

I have two pictures taken in January this year in Libreville. I wanted to post them but was refused same based on 'bad Quality'!

besides,

RB Syrianair was one of the last Caravell Operators worldwide, they had two Super Caravells which were retiered in 1996.

Both of them ae still parked on the western side of Damascus International Airport (close to the Hangers). Engines have been taken away however. ( saw them last time in February this year)

The latest edition of Airways has an excellent article on the Gabon Express SE210's.
