A notam has gone out for disturbances in ATC sevices from the 9th 18.00z to the 11th at 08.00z.
Now let's see the most likely scenario : Most affected centres will be West and South (different populations, I'm not going to elaborate...).
With the experience of past social unrest (the latest on Jan 20th),this should look like thus :
Heavy delays at the beginning of the morning of the 10th, getting quickly better with the 08.00z shift change, and improving as shift staffs are counted; those slots will be lifted rapidly if the strike is not very popular (as I expect). But the plan is to offload some of the transatlantic traffic (West Centre) on the North centre, so some delays will happen.
I still don't know whether the strike will be followed by the airports' fire service people, so it could affect, once again, the morning of the 10th.
So, Mozart, if you plan to fly before, let's say 11.00L, you will certainly be delayed. The picture looks a lot rosier early P.M.
Wheelsatc, you should be fine.
If you're patient enough, I will provide you with the latest estimations to-morrow middday. Keep this site open. If you'd like some more precise gen, e-mail me,giving your cellular # so that I could provide you both with the best advice. I'll have a computer nearby.
That's a very cheap shot. And to be honest, I'm glad I live in a country where people still think their way of life and rights are worth fighting for. Sometimes, like to-day, though, I find these strikes ill-thought and unfair to the public. That's why I've decided to be on the other side of the fence. It's not, by a long shot, always the case.
Very kind regards.
