Hows Astraeus + Flyjet Doing?

Tue Mar 08, 2005 6:00 am

Aftering reading through all the news articles about charter airlines I thought about astraeus and flyjet. There has been no news about them other than Astraeus leasing B733 to flybe. Anyone know any news or rumours.

Hello, BMED

The only Rumors I have heard really is that FlyJet are after a Boeing 767, but this is probably old news. Astraeus are going to lease an Airbus 319 for a few months, but that's all I've heard about them.

Hi,

Astraeus

I am flying with Astraeus this May to Santorini so I am looking forward to that. The flight is on behalf of MyTravel.

Astraeus are operating a Lotus Air A319 this Summer from LBA on behalf of MyTravel. They also currently lease an Air Malta A320 - 9H-AEF, but this returns on 20th March.

The two B733s they leased to Air Asia - G-STRA/B are due back in the UK by May and they are supposed to be evaluating another B757-200 to arrive this Spring.

Flyjet

There isn't much happening on the FJE front aircraft wise. Another B757 is supposed to arrive this month but I am not sure whether this will happen?

They are still running the Accra, Ghana flights for Ghana Travel.

Transport Canada has awarded them their Foreign Air Operators Certificate and licence for Non-Scheduled International services between the UK and Canada. These allow them to fly to all Canadian airports. Its first flight is scheduled to operate to Montreal at the beginning of March 2005.

Flyjet also have an entertainment licence to show films, TV and music onboard now.

My Mum flew with them to HER in 2002 and was pleased with the service apart from the air condition wasn't working on the return meaning the aircraft was boiling hot and the kettles where broke on the outbound.

Hope this helps!  thumbsup

Both airlines are unconnected to any of the large UK tour oprerators - and as such seem to pick up some very varied flying - I believe FJE also do a fair bit of work for the MoD.

Astraeus have plans for another lease acquisition for the summer - ZK SLA - in the CAA document http://www.caa.co.uk/docs/213/1686.pdf it is referred to as a Boeing 737-800, but the pictures in the Airliners.net data base for that reg. are for a 737-300 of Airwork, so I guess it's a CAA typo..

Astraeus are indeed flying across the atlantic.

They are flying to Deer Lake in Canada in the 73-700, and the crew operate there and back!
The crewing certainly hasnt changed since I worked for them!

Still they look to be growing, although I think that FJE have the most long term potential, and I have many friends there who very much enjoy their job with them.

Astraues will be running 3 737-300s for flyBe from the end of this month. Two will be based at BHX and one at EXT doing flyBe's new sunshine routes.

Flyjet 767 rumours still knocking around, but that has been for a while now. Apparently they have been advertising for 767 crew though, so who knows?

Astraeus fleet plans for this Summer mean we'll be bigger than ever. A third 757 in premium seating will be delivered next week. These three aircraft and one 737-300 will be LGW based for the Summer. Our two 737-700s (G-STRF and G-STRH) will be our MAN based aircraft. We'll have two 737-300s (one of ours and one New Zealand wet leased one as above) based in Iceland for Iceland Express. Three 737-300s will be based in Birmingham and Exeter for flybe. There will also be a wet leased A319 from Lotus Air in Leeds for the Summer with the possibility if all goes well that we may operate our own metal in LBA next year. We're flying further than ever with scheduled operations to Malabo, Freetown, Djibouti, Hassi Mesaoud, Accra, and Sharm. Charter operations are equally far flung including the Deer Lake turnaround flight (which is shorter than many flights to Egypt). Lots of exciting plans ahead, but who knows what opportunities lie around the corner.

I'm not sure about flyjet, they've still only got the two aircraft which they started with, and not the busiest flying programme. Have they now filed their accounts with Companies House, coz it's getting rather late now.....

FJE can have delays of up to over a day! They schedule way too much for the aircraft they have,

Do you have any more info on which aircraft will be leased from New Zealand for the Iceland Express operations? Or what it's age will be?

Thanks in advance
Reykjavik Aviation Photography - Just bring the aircraft to us and we'll photograph them! :-)

Isn't Astraeus the airline that Bruce Dickenson of Iron Maiden is the first officer for?

Bruce Dickinson is a FO on the 757 for Astraeus, not sure of when he switched over from the 737 though
When you hear the noise of the Tartan Army Boys, we'll be coming down the road!
