Wed Mar 09, 2005 12:50 am

Interesting. I see in today's news that Allegiant is expected to announce new service out of MidAmerica Airport.

I never thought I'd see it happen, MidAmerica has multiple airlines with scheduled service. Now let's see if they can keep them.

I understand Peoria has been a very strong market for Allegiant. Something like an 80% load factor. Maybe they expect to move some of that market south.

I am thinking they are going to try more for the STL market than to canibalize their own existing service. Still, they make a lot of very marginal markets work, so St. Louis-Hahn fits their mold Big grin

St. Louis of course but I was also thinking about Springfield and points south.

It's been a while since I've been in that area but IIRC Springfield was the midpoint between STL and PIA (about 75 miles to either if I remember the drive right). If G4 has seen a number of bookings at PIA from Springfield and other Southern Illinois towns they may also have identified a market that is choosing not to use STL for Vegas flights.

Glad to hear new service for the St Louis region. How ironic our hub is slashed to the bones, yet we're a 2 airport market. For the time being anyway.

That route map needs to be reworked, it appears at first glance that the PIA flight stops in BLV!

So can someone give me more info on this MidAmerica airport? Is it mostly a general aviation airport in St. Louis that, because of cost reasons, has attracted LCC, but beyond that, its basically pulling people from the same area as Lambert field is? sorry for the dumb questions.
