Mexicana To Reveal New Livery

Wed Mar 09, 2005 12:51 am

Apparently, Mexicana to reveal new livery sometime this
week with one or two aircraft.

They are also have new uniforms for their crews and new
interiors in their aircraft with new seats/colors intergrated
video in Business Class starting in the spring.

Can not wait to see what this great airline has in store and
hope someone takes pictures in Mexico.

I think Mexicana's scheme is still very nice and modern looking. I don't think it needs a change yet. Hopefully Aeromexico will come with a new one next. I like the metal finish, but I think it is time.

I agree SSspontak,

Both carriers have nice schemes but a change once in a while is good especially when an airline is changing every aspect of their image as it seems Mexicana is doing.

I like changes on Airlines. Makes for good pictures.

About the uniforms, they will be delivered to the f/a crews in the next month, about the new interior, it´s already in the A318´s. same seats, only the wall that separates "Ejecutiva" from Coach change for a dark blue.

Let´s wait the pictures from our good friends of APM.

MX's current color scheme has become a bit boring, IMHO. I'm referring to the way they use it on their aircraft. I do not a think an all new scheme is necessary, maybe only some adjustments. For instance, I really like the colors they us at their ticket offices (the green and the blue) and would like to see something similar applied to their aircraft. I think that scheme looks really classy (the one used on their CTO's).

I liked the multicolor tails from 10 years ago.

And I hope MX's F/A wear the one piece dresses. They look just sexy.

A little color to the engines might help the aircraft look alive. But what I would love to see on MX's metal is schemes like the ones by Frontier or Tikal Jets. I think Mexico has really nice places that would look great on an aircraft.

I always liked the diferent colours they used on their tails and different motifs a few years back. Why did they change from this? Was very classy - pinkish-red, yellow and green i beleive were used. Now it's just the green.

Is that right?

Capt. Rangel (former MXA 727 and A320 FO) told me they stopped painting the planes with different schemes because it was expensive for the company. So they decided to use the green tail scheme as the stantard one.

I hope that the new livery consists of less white than the current one. Also, as someone else said, I hope the engines get some color. In any case, I hope the design of the tail remains because I like it a lot. Should anyone have a sneak peek of the livery, please share it!!!

What for?they have just gotten new a318's.Why didn't they paint them with this new color scheme then?why to repaint(or leave painted with an old livery till the next big revision and thus repaint) a brand new, just painted aircraft?Isn't that to expensive for an airline that just came out of a long period of heavy losses? no

They won't repaint the A318s until they're due for repainting anyway - this does mean that the aircraft will likely be the last in the fleet to move over to the new colourscheme. Repainting them earlier would, as you say, be too expensive.

As for why the A318s were delivered in the soon-to-be-old livery, if Mexicana wasn't ready to unveil a new look they had no choice. Better to launch the new livery properly, when the airline is ready, than to rush it through just to have their most newly-delivered aircraft in it.

Yes, because with a new livery an airline must also renovate their whole decor within their entire system and infrastructure. Otherwise, things start looking a bit tacky and unprofessional.

As Ghost mentions, MX's management has probably had this plan for more than a year, but was weary of the situation that the government was trying to impose on it. Just look at Mexicana.com and you can tell that they have kept the company's corporate image very neutral for the time being.

I admit that when this early current version was adopted in the mid-to-late 90s, I didn't like it! (green wasn't my favorite color, and I prefered some of the other patterns they had used.) However, after they touched it up around 96-97, it started to grow on me, little by little. When I see a whole row of Mexicana planes at Tom Bradley (up to seven all at once) there's a nice warm feeling left in me, like: that's the flag carrier of the country of my origins.   cheerful

My biggest fear is MX and AM being sold, and the buyer will want to change their liveries. What a shame if that happens, specially for Aeromexico, as their livery is one of the best in the world.

I've been told that the new livery will have green and blue. Perhaps MX green and Hellmex's blue tone? Dunno! There's an A320 ready in the new livery @ MX's hangars. Perhaps OHML!

As for the blue 57 it's not MX's. That plane belonged to Cameroon Airlines and is now due for another carrier (which I forgot the name right now)!

Wow, no more green !! If it turns out to be true it would be a bit surprising but not totally crazy, historically speaking MX hasn't had an ever present color like AM's terracota. They've had blue, gold, pink, etc. The particular shade of green on the tails and the oh so famous pattern has only been present since what, 96 or so?? So really it's a fairly recent invention, still I think it's impressive to see how fast it's come to be an integral part of MX's image.

So let's wait and see what happens on Friday, would be sort of pricey to see the green and the pattern go, imagine, they'd have to rebrand not just uniforms and paint, but ticket offices and all of those sorts of things.

Can't wait to see : )

Expect Caribe to get a new name, new c/s, new routes, more Fokkers and lower fares by May!

About the blue, is already in the interiors, like i said before, is used on the bulkheads (the separators from "Ejecutiva" and coach), and is not only paint, it´s like a carpet, feels really nice and looks good.

Ghost, no info about the Reg, maybe is OHML, not flying these days, we will have to see it tomorrow, hope you get pictures.

I'm pretty surprised - I wouldn't have put MX on the list of carriers needing a new livery. I hope they keep the "M" logo with the eagle/pyramid head (I've always wondered what exactly it was) and the streamlined typeface - to me those are Mexicana.

I have seen some pictures of the plane while on the painting process.

White all over the fuselage with blue engines and tail. The logo is now bigger but does not fit in the tail, it has been cropped giving it a modernist look that IMHO does not go at all with the airline history and tradition.

I will be at MEX today for the possible rollout, expect pictures.

MX330,

Your comments about it not going with Tradition is exactly why this
is so interesting. It shows a progressive attitude and one of change and
continuity.

Mexicana has always been a progressive airline with constant change with
the times.

I can't wait to see the first pictures which should be coming in soon.

I -like many here- haven't seen it either, but if dark blue is the predominant color, MX sticks to it's business plan and with a grain of luck, it might look like this:

Oh well., this post would have been so ad-hoc when the ghosts of merger were scaring us.

I guess you did not get a chance to read yesterday's Reforma newspaper where it says that Roland Berger Consulting was paid by ASPA to evaluate the future of AM and MX as separate companies. Well, in the draft given to ASPA, AM and MX their main conclusion is a "blood bath" in the Mexican airline industry. If you add to that the huge amount of money lost by both airlines in the past three years, then I guess you are right, MX has enough money to make major changes!!

The present tail pattern I read has been in use since 1990, but I myself saw it first on an A320 in '94, the one with a yellow tail with the blue ornaments. What an outstanding livery, and in different colors to boot! My favorite was the pink, yes the PINK one.

Too bad in '96 they decided to stay with one color and only restricted to the tail, no longer down to the fuselage which was a shame (it looked much better that way). They painted the bottom gray to make it look less boring I guess.

Please don't tell me it's another dark blue tail and tacky painted engines.. as if when I go to the airport I didn't see enough white planes with blue tails already..

Be careful! You might get what you wish for!

Well, actually, I think you got what you wished for. It's worse than the current scheme: they changed the best part of it (i.e., the tail) and left the worst part basically intact (that bland white/gray fuselage and letters).

It's a f**king joke!

If they really wanted to scr*w up their livery, couldn't they just have pasted a giant photo of El Peje on the tail, very much like the Frontier "wild animals" scheme?
