Wed Mar 09, 2005 4:48 am

This probably has been discussed before, but I haven´t founf it.
I wonder why Jal beeing such a big airline isn´t at any aliance, and ANA is in Star.

Can anyone add somthing to it???

JAL is not a Oneworld member but is closely linked with Oneworld - particularly its pilots association.

JAL prefers to do a similar thing to Alaska does in the US. They are closely linked to airlines in a certain alliance (in both cases, One World) but have the freedom to work with other carriers if they want. It has worked well for both carriers

They are closer to Oneworld

But hey, with Skyteam and so, why join Oneworld now? I think they code-shared with QANTAS too which is a Oneworld member. But AA, definetely. I don't schedules for NRT-HKG are so closely laid out that they seem as though they are competing on it instead of cooperating.

Backfire, so if the pilots association is close, then what happens? Japanese pilots flying AA 777?

JL codeshares where it' convenient. It codeshares with Star Alliance members such as with TG, NZ. SkyTeam - KE & AF. OneWorld - AA,CX, BA, QF. Independents such as MU, CZ, EK too.

JL caters to Japanese travellers and unlike up-start NH doesn't have to join an alliance to increase feed.

Joining or not joining an alliance has nothing to do with pilots associations. JL's pilot and other labor groups are still divided between formerly JAS & JL members.

I wish they would once and for all join One World. I would fly them about 50k miles a year if they did.

You can also gain and redeem NW FF miles on JL's domestic Japan routes. NW had an agreeement with JAS and when JL bought JAS the agreement was transferred.
Yes...I am not a KIX fan. Let's Japanese Aviation!
