Disturbing Situation On WN Flight #2105 Tonight

Thu Mar 10, 2005 2:00 pm

My father who was coming in from PHX / KPHX), USA - Arizona">PHX tonite on flight #2105 happened to be on a very interesting flight. There was a man that simply stepped over the line. Some people were somewhat nervous as he was making threats and he told the stewardess to bring on the police because he didn't care. Don't know specifics as he called me from the airplane when he was waitin to deplane but I will inform you of more later.

I'm sure he was toasted, and lost his boarding pass and bugs were in his luggage. Oh wait. That's the next episode on Airline. Big grin

I'll be working the gate. It's going to be an ugly day tomorrow and the next day. NW807 is over by 9 on the 10mar and 15 on the 11Mar. and all of our flts are sold out till I think Tuesday. I left my boss an e-mail telling him to have the checks ready for Invols.

This thread was started to get info on this flight and this asshole passenger. Not to be a grammar lesson!  talktothehand  Anyone have any info? I hope this guy was arrested. Anyone who disrupts a commercial flight in this country should go to jail! Any PHX WN people here? I am curious!  listen

Back to the original subject, a similar incident took place on a WN PHL-PBI flight last month. Fortunately, on that particular flight, the f/a crew and some passengers subdued the guy; a 37 year old drunk from Northeast Philly

Its the 21st century. The US does not have any stewardesses, they are called flight attendants.

That could have a lot to do with why flying in the 20th century was a much more pleasurable experience than it is in the 21st.

Alcohol does play a part in some of these incidents but they are not the cause. It would seem that WN gets more than average the number of drunks that get out of control. I don't know if this is true but the fact remains that if you decide to disrupt a commercial flight in any fashion you should be arrested immediately and should get an automatic jail term of at least 30 days. We don't need this!

My final destination is GSO, to visit Wake Forest University. I'll be coming back through MEM on saturday during the evening flight bank. I can't wait for my first trip on an Avro. Looking at the current schedule, NW is almost all avros at OKC now, except for the arrival from MSP and departure to DTW that is a DC-9.

This isn't a job, PanAm747, it's fun. Nobody here is trying to create the ultimate primary source for turn of the 21st century aviation (at least on this part of the site), we just talk about it conversationally.

I would be very interested to see some stats comparing airline to airline concerning passenger disturbances. It does seem like WN gets its fair share, but if you think about it, WN's destinations and fare structure make it fairly likely to be a "first flight" opportunity for a lot of people, and the airline of choice for people that only fly a couple times per year. Also it offers flights to Vegas from lots and lots of places. Vegas flights + Cheap fares + All coach = the ideal airline for bachelorette parties, etc. (every other episode of Airline has one). I mean, really--do you think that all the college kids in STL flew AA to Florida this spring break? Except the ones who booked really early, nope--they mostly took WN and USA3000 (which has been packed all week).

Someone mentioned in a previous forum about WN (I think it was in regards to the trashy people who fly WN) that on their "Shuttle" routes, like from DAL to HOU or SAT it's pretty much all business. I'll buy that--I doubt they've ever had any real trouble with customers on that route because the "trashy" customers would drive. But enough first time, nervous fliers in a fairly anarchic atmosphere (alright, everyone, get on the plane!), plus a fair number of people that have already started the party, plus cheery gate agents and F/A's that are usually willing to join in the fun... that would drive me so crazy I would probably drink myself to sleep too (and then if I still couldn't sleep, I'd take it out on anyone around me).

Interesting...a whole bunch of replies (including my "grammar lesson") got deleted because they either quoted everything that I had said (thus violating one of the rules) or were irrelevant. The reply above what is currently 17 was reply 29 and said just that (I'm sure one of y'all will learn me a grammar lesson for that sentence). I have to say that the edited repost of the original topic by airlinerfreak makes much more sense.

Mods...please just take this thread out of its misery and save it to the archives! Thanks.

NW5767 TUL-MEM 12 March: Cabin class: Y0 B0 M0 H0 Q0 V0 L0 T0 K0

Yep, get there early and volunteer. Of course, all of the rest of the flights to MEM are zeroed out as well, so you might be in Tulsa for a while, but enjoy it.

To take a look at more availabilities, take a look at this website:

http://www.flyaow.com/classcwt.htm

That's where I got the above info.

TUL will probably do what we did. We rented 3 Airport Express Vans and filled them up with our Volunteers and sent the psgrs from OKC to ICT. For the 3 flights that I worked 2 Avros and one DC9-30 I had about 20 Denied Boardings 5 were Invols and the rest Vol. Got to love Spring Break

That's amazing, by the way.

But TUL's gonna have to. I just checked for the hell of it, and they're booked solid through Tuesday. To everywhere. Might as well send the vans straight to Memphis.

How many are we overbooked by on that NW Tulsa flight? I am supposed to have three connections, TUL-MEM-ATL-FLL-SJU; so I really want to get bumped and get a better itenerary. Any chance? I am really not looking forward to a fifteen hours flight tomorrow! Ben

Good question. I don't work for NW so I have no idea, but since every fare class is zeroed out, I'd guess by 5-10 (on a CRJ), since the typical overbooking rate is somewhere between 10 and 20 percent. Your chances of being bumped are pretty good.

As far as getting a better itinerary, that's also tough to figure out - no idea what the loads onward to SJU look like via Memphis.

Good luck, though - let us know what happens.

Alcohol has been a substance ingested almost since civilization started. In fact, during the Middle Ages, the only thing people could drink was alcohol, in one form or another.

It is a pleasurable, soothing drink. However, if you abuse it, then we all know the results. I do not think airlines should go dry just because a few morons can't control their drinking, get intoxicated and start acting out. As far as I remember (no pun here) I have never become inebriated on a flight, although I do enjoy a beer or two.

The analogy with going smoke-free is not entirely equivalent so I wouldn't use it to push the "airlines dry" agenda.

It is more like the argument with the guns. Guns don't kill people, people kill people. Well alcohol does not make for insolent passengers, passengers turn themselves insolent.

Who is online
