My First Delivery Flight Tomorrow: AS 738

Fri Mar 11, 2005 3:45 am

I was informed this morning from a close friends at Alaska Corp. that I have been placed on the list to fly on the delivery of our second 738. Alaska will receive N549AS tomorrow around 1pm. 57 people have been invited to attend and fly on the plane from Boeing Field to SEA-TAC. A short flight, but it will be very exciting. I will take lots of pics and post them.

Cool, several of us will be on hand to shoot the departure from mid-field.

Have a safe flight!

SEA-TAC as in Seattle-Tacoma international airport

He'll be flight BFI-SEA if you want airport codes

or Boeing Field / King County International Airport
to Seattle/Tacoma International Airport

SEA-TAC, the common name of Seattle-Tacoma airport. Our home base. Why would we send the plane to ANC? The plane will be prepared for pax service at our SEA hanger like all new planes for AS.

Sounds like a lot of fun. You guys get shafted though... But at least you get to log BFI and hopefully get a memorabilia to commemorate the event. Will you get an insider tour of the Boeing plant as well?

HAHA...I was thinking the same thing considering it takes me about 15 minutes to drive between the two airports in my car everyday

AS739x: What position do you hold within AS? I'm always curious to learn about all the different jobs in the aviation industry since I one day hope to work in it.

What flight segment will the second AS 738 be slated for?

Also, any chance you'll get a full power takeoff like the CO 757 w/ winglets? That would be sweet!

I will most likely be there to photograph you leaving as well. If you are interested, contact me via profile and I can get you a print.

I would also be interested in how they route you from BFI-SEA, considering BFI is right under the approach for SEA.

Dunno mate. It's very rare they deliver from Renton.

In this case, it left Renton on 23 Feb to Boeing Field via Everett as 'BOE403'.

Next flight was 3 March when it flew BFI-Grant County-BFI in full AS colours.

It did another of the same on 7 March, then a BFI-BFI airtest 8 March, all still as 'BOE403'.

It seems that once they've finished making them they send them to BFI until they're ready for delivery.

Cheers,

The runway at Renton is quite short, so Boeing is loath to use it other than for the initial flight (with minimal fuel) of the jets assembled there. However, after the Nisqually earthquake damage the runway at Boeing Field four years ago, a few of the planes did return to their place of origin temporarily.

I guess they wouldn't go the shortest route from BFI to SEA so I can't see it being the shortest route.
Hope you had fun, sounds like a lot of people at Alaska Airlines hope to get on a delivery flight.

The factory is located at RNT. The delivery center is at BFI. Some final manufacturing steps can be accomplished at BFI as well, example: paint

'ASA9290' N549AS dept BFI at 1526 local for SEA with an ETA of 1637 local. The flight is currently at FL170 over the Pacific off the Forks coast and turning back inland.

That IS a beautiful plane. I don't care how "old" the 737 design is, that plane looks great in Alaska colors. Congrats!

Hey gang...

I saw you guys all lined up on the fence there. I told a few people to check this site and see your pictures. We had a great time today. There was about 50 employee's onboard. We did fly out over the coast. We turned north towards Victoria, B.C. We then flew direct Mt. Rainier were we flew two trips around at 17,000 feet. I got one good pic out of it and will post it. Then we landed at Sea-Tac about 5:10 local.

The flight was great. It was Part 91, so the cockpit door was open at all time other then takeoff and landing. Everyone got to visit and have their picture taken inside. Some kids of employee's had their pics taken. How many of us got our picture in a cockpit of a brand new plane while in flight? Lucky devils. The flight crew was fantastic. Boeing provided a box meal which was actually really good. Well I'll post a few of my pic from in the cabin. Hope you guys liked her. Strong rumor is that the next 800 in the fall will be a Alaskaair.com plane.

Does AC's CRJ's get delivered to YYZ? That could be about the same length.

Wow...BFI-SEA via Forks and the Olympic Peninsula...surely that must take the cake for "most out of the way" routing relative to distance between departure and destination...but glad to hear you had a good time, sounds like a great experience!!!!

I saw the new bird on approach to SEA Friday afternoon. Then, the next few aircraft to follow were Southwest's 737-700 N426WN, now with winglets, then Continental's 737-800 N33284, followed by Alaska's 737-700 N619AS. Four winglet-equipped 737's in succession! APB definitely has a winner on their hands with the blended winglets.  checkeredflag

Sounds like a really great trip! Made sense to do a flight to nowhere so that everyone can enjoy the flight.

Note: BFI is only a production facility; typically, once the planes leave there, they never return. It is fun to watch from the parking lot along the street that overlooks the runway; always some neat stuff down there.

AS739x....enjoy the opportunity!

I was lucky enough to be on Delta's delivery flight of ship N839MH (B764)
hence the screen name. PAE-ATL, what a fantastic flight. Even got
about 40 minutes in the cockpit, left seat flying time. Flightsim does not
even come close...but sure looked the same. Anyhow, what a great
opportunity to see how Boeing delivers an aircraft to an airline. Nothing
better than a brand spanking new airplane...smells better than a new car!

I will submit my pictures of my delivery flight experience this week!

Enjoy!
