Terminal 5 Lights LHR

Fri Mar 11, 2005 7:10 pm

When we taxied out for a 09R departure at night recently it struck me as to how vast a site Terminal 5 is at LHR. I haven't departed from LHR in daylight hours for some months, but I was amazed to see the whole area lit up as if the terminal area was operational.

I know the terminal isn't due to be commissioned until 2007 but are the lights on as they are working on it 24/7? If not, just wondered if some electricity could be saved out there...

They work late on it. I've driven past it on the service road at night a fair number of times recently (I live near LHR) and they are working late. I think its 24 hrs, but not certain its the whole night.

Also bear in mind right next to it is the widening of the M25 and the new junction and road being built - that is 24/7.
Just when I thought I could see light at the end of the tunnel, it was some B*****d with a torch bringing me more work

You can see the construction lights all the way from the M25, the site is huge. There is a mixture of red, green and white lights at the site, sometimes they look like an aircrafts strobe lights.

I work at T2 and for the first time, we went throught the new tunnel that has been built from the central terminal area (T's 1 2 & 3) to T5, what an amazing job they have done.

As cornish said they are working late, if not 24/7 every night, they are also working on parts of the taxi ways, strenghthening the Alpha (outer) taxiway ready for the A380.

I think these are the lights on the numerous cranes that are about at T5.
There is still another terminal building to go up yet, there will be three concourses - A B & C, we have been told that it will all be up and running by 2008.
When in doubt give it a clout

The main T5 building and the first satellite will come into operation in 2008. The second satellite will be completed for use in 2011.
