Estonian Air To Drop MUC, Start MAN, BGY

Sat Mar 12, 2005 8:39 am

Following the recent management reorganisation, Estonian Air has decided to drop its route from Tallinn to Munich. New routes to Manchester, Milan (BGY), and possibly some destinations on the Mediterranean coast will be opened instead. The route from TLL to Gothenburg was also dropped a few weeks ago.

The MTOW on one of the B737-500's will also be increased for flights to the Mediterranean destinations.

Estonian Air closes the route to Munich and evaluates new destinations

I wonder, how useful could it be to increase the MTOW on a 735 that is probably going to be replaced in the next few years anyway? Anyone know?

That would be great if they start flights to MAN. There's been a significant increase in travel between the UK and Estonia since they entered the EU.

And when they state the "Mediterranean coast" are they referring to Southern Europe or North Africa?

Are Estonian Air going to be getting anymore aircraft? I know they have a small fleet, and thought maybe it was a little too small?

Even though they haven't started the route for this summer, they should still hold slots at EDI for TLL-EDI.

EDI has indeed been talked about for some time now and I'm sure sooner or later the service will start.

They say they're looking for new planes and thinking about one or more 'larger' planes, (probably with some 150-180 seats then) and some in the 70-90 seat region, like the Q400 (probably from SAS) or some RJs.

I hear tourist places in Southern Europe, like Alicante, Malaga, Faro, etc, are what's on their minds. I think in the next few years they're going to try to conquer back the Estonian charter market (which has been almost completely taken over by Egyptian, Spanish and Turkish airlines) and will then also fly to Sharm, Hurghada and probably Tunis, too.

Estonain is missing an arcraft type for around 50 pax, because ther 735 are not the best plane for many of the new routes, both GOT and MUC are now axed because due to this.

50 is a bit small, they only got rid of the F50 a year and a half ago, saying that it was too small for services to Kiev and Vilnius. I'm quite sure that Göteborg could have supported a 70-seater too (when I flew GOT-TLL, the 735 was sold out nearly 100%), if only the new management would have given it a chance.
