Is 35 Minutes Enough For Connecting In MUC?

Sun Mar 13, 2005 5:00 pm

Hello MUC knowers!

I'm going to Italy in June taking LH HEL-MUC, MUC-FCO and back the same way two weeks later. On our way down we only have 35 mins transfer in MUC. Is this really enough? How is Franz Josef Strauss airport - never been there before. But if I would be doing the same in FRA I'd be really worried.

The airport just opened in 2003. It is created for 35 min connection. Of course, there is not really a lot of time inbetween your flights. However, your flights are intra-schengen flights which should be no problem.

It should work fine - if you're unlucky, you'll have to walk quite a distance, but there are moving walkways... the only thing that I always found annoying in MUC (or any other airport) was when I got remote stands, which could make the whole thing a bit more of a close call...

But, just like LHSTR mentions, 35 minutes is the minimum connecting time in MUC, you're on Schengen flights all the way, so you should be fine... just don't expect to have enough time to grab a snack and a coffee inbetween flights...  Wink

Frank

Its very tight. Be aware your bags probably wont get on the plane and they wil send them on the next flight.

Thanks all!

So I gather we will pack extra clothing for one night in hand luggage - we will be staying 300 kms from FCO - hope they will bring the luggage there the following day.

MUC is pretty well organized. I had a tight connection once on my AMS-MUC-BCN flight and when our CRJ was landing only 20 minutes before ETD of the MUC-BCN plane and especially seeing we were parking away from the gate I thought I'd miss it, but when deboarding on the platform a van was waiting for me (and another for two passengers for a FCO connection or so) who quickly took me and I believe my luggage to the other aircraft.
nobody has ever died from hard work, but why take the risk?

it should work very well. In case you will arrive late, there is a so called 'Direct transfer service' from Lufthansa. They will pick you up direct at the plane and guide you with a minivan to your onward flight. LH guaranties together with the airport, 35min. connecting time. Off course including your baggage  Smile

Quoting LHSTR (Reply 1):

the LH terminal opened 2003, not the airport. MUC opened 1992.

35 minutes in MUC are not very tight. the concept of the terminal is for that kind of conections. If you flight will arrive with the normal eta you will not have any problem to get your conection.

The LH assisted transfer service is excellent in MUC - you are met at the top of the airbridge and escorted to a mini-van and taken to your next aircraft airbridge if boarding has already commenced. An excellent service in a truly superb airport.
You are 100 times more likely to catch a cold on a flight than an average person!

RCS763AV,
can you base your quote on facts. Neither LH nor MUC Airport are known for a lot of lost baggage.
Have you been to MUC recently. If not, better keep quiet.

It's Germany and it's MUC. 35 minutes is acceptable for both you and your luggage. No problem at all. LHR on the other hand, you need 2 hours and your luggage still may not make it  Smile

Thanks to you all again!

This is exactly what I could expect - german punctuality! That is actually why we are travelling through MUC - besides the very good price of course too.

Wow, there seems to one or two folks here spewing advise when its obvious they've never been to MUC.

35min between schengen flights should not be a problem at MUC (unless as someone already stated, you decide to stop for a snack and coffee).

MUC is amazingly efficient and very well designed. Barring any extreme weather or labor unrest, you should not have a problem at all.

I was in MUC 10 days ago, and the airport, both terminals are modern and efficient. Since your flying with in the EU, you should have no problem making the connection. MUC is a well planned airport, but it's not too big, but can handle a lot. I'm pretty sure at this time of year that your flight will both arrive at T2 and you should not arrive at a remote gate. You'll be fine with your connection.
