No, but I do remember the UA service to DEN in the early 80's with a 727-100, and 737-200 to LAX. MRY was a hoppin place back then. AirCal had several daily 737 frequencies to LAX also, IIRC.

Good news for the peninsula....

Indeed, I was just thinking about that 757 service, too. I recall being on a BOS-SFO flight about three years ago that continued to MRY...

Great news for MRY! Flew in there from SFO back in the early 1990s on a UA 737-200. Nice little airport.

In May 1989 I flew FAI-ANC-SEA-GEG-SFO-MRY on a UA 727-100. When I left Fairbanks at 11:30pm, it was still light out (Alaska Summers!!) and got into MRY in time for lunch. I remember seeing MRY bound 757's at the gate in SFO. They flew 757's into SBA back then as well. Both are now relegated to itty bitty jets and props. The MRY terminal is pretty small for a 189 seat plane. Beautiful airport though. You come in over the Pacific Ocean when you are on final if the winds are right.
I'm leavin on a jet plane. Don't know when I'll be back again....

With this news, I guess there's hope for BFL yet...if Monterey can get UA back to DEN, then with its new terminal, maybe BFL can convince United Express (already there) to bring in a couple of RJ's BFL-DEN.

BFL seems to be focused on SLC flights right now. From today's news:

Airport officials want to add another link to a national flight hub, possibly as early as June. They've held preliminary meetings with Delta Airlines. Now they are planning to meet in late March with the Atlanta-based carrier to discuss running a flight from Meadows Field to Salt Lake City. "It looks very promising," said Ray Bishop, director of Kern County Airports. "I'd hate to commit to it, but it looks very strong."

BFL's next airline may be American Eagle. Has it happens to be, oneWorld's monthly PR "a word from oneworld" accidently leaked the info...

February 24, 2005

oneworld's route network grows 5 per cent to 602 airports: The route network served by the oneworldTM alliance has grown by 5 per cent in the past year, with more than 30 destinations added to the alliance's map or coming on line soon, taking the number of airports the group serves to 602 in 136 territories.

Five airports have been added in the USA and four in Peru. In the States, AA is now serving Anchorage (Alaska), Bakersfield (California), Lexington (Kentucky), Pensacola (Florida) and Savannah (Georgia), while in Peru, LAN has launched services to Iquitos, Piura, Tacna and Tarapoto.

Interesting, I always considered Denver to be the Golfer's Paradise! optimist

Anyhow, good news for an interesting route.
