Does Cathay Pacific Drug Test It's Pilots?

Tue Mar 15, 2005 6:55 am

I just read the thread about the "pilotless jumbo", and at first I thought how could they not know something was wrong when the 747 turned left when the missed approach procedure called for a right turn, but then I thought of an entirely different subject. Does Cathay drug test it's pilots?

I think that every airline drug test it's pilots and flight attendants (please correct me when I am wrong). An airline which do not drug test it's flying personnel goes straight on my "airlines to avoid" list!

I pretty sure 99.9% that every airline drug test almost all its employees. Even Rampers.

I don't know how it is at other company's but at my company has it's initial drug test and then that's pretty much it. If you're involved in an accident or two supervisors who've gone through a program both observe you within X amount of time, they can pull you for a drug test but, unfortunately, that's it.

To be honest, I'm surprised that it's not an FAA mandated procedure, just like with flight crews' random testing.

NTS
United 717 heavy, you're facing the wrong way. Any chance you can powerback to get off of my deice pad?

Here in the U.S. it's FAA mandated, but, unless I'm wrong, Cathay doesn't have to answer to the FAA, but the Hong Kong equivalent.

Well Patrick... I'd be extremely surprised if OX tests anything. Their pilot turnover rate is so high anyway that they need new 747 pilots all the time. Used to hire 757 F/Os with only simulator experience.

I personally know an EVA pilot who uses drugs... it's not CX but I somehow wonder if drug testing is very routine in Asia..

Thank GOD CX does not have to answer to the FAA. Taking a flight is already tough enough.

As for the CX 744 being pilotless, thats just a load of crap. Did something go wrong, Yes... Was it pilotless...NO.
