UK Flight Trackers

Tue Mar 15, 2005 10:13 am

I've googled, yahooed, etc. Does anyone know of a UK based realtime flight tracker site with good mapping?
I don't understand everything I don't know about this.

I've been looking to, I have tried everything!!! The airline websites don't have one, and I have looked for a long time. Do Europeans track flights or do you just look at the times. I can't find any trackers!

Flight Explorer has full coverage over the UK.
From the desert to the sea, to all of Southern California

The CAA was about to launch an online flight tracker linked to ATC with registrations and all other details in 2001. This I believe was put on hold after the events of 9/11, and I haven't seen anything since.

A lot of people in the UK use ACARS which covers most aircraft with full information, and is transmitted directly from the aircraft so is usually more accurate.

Cheers,
Noel.

Seriously, NoelG, can you please explain in laymans terms just what ACARS is? I've also been wondering where this info is available and whether a non-aviation savage such as me can look into these things. Also, just what is "Flight Explorer" and is there a link please?

Just a warning about Flight Explorer before you all pull your credit cards out. The subscription price isn't per month or anything like that, it's for x amount of minutes connected the server. I think it's something like £25 for 100 minutes usage.

To me, that's an absolute rip-off and I personally wouldn't touch Flight Explorer with a very long stick!

It really does depend how desperate you are to keep track of UK flights.

Cheers,
