US Airways And What A Great Airline They Are

Wed Mar 16, 2005 8:06 am

Well, I was scheduled for this Memorial Day weekend to fly PBI / KPBI), USA - Florida">PBI-CLT / KCLT), USA - North Carolina">CLT-MSY / KMSY), USA - Louisiana">MSY on 5/27 in the evening, and return MSY / KMSY), USA - Louisiana">MSY-CLT / KCLT), USA - North Carolina">CLT-PBI / KPBI), USA - Florida">PBI on 5/30 in the evening, getting into PBI / KPBI), USA - Florida">PBI at 12:57 the next morning. Well, US Airways cut that last bank of flights from their schedule, which meant I would have a 3:25 PM flight on the 30th to get back to PBI / KPBI), USA - Florida">PBI, which was unacceptable for me. I asked for, and received, seats on flights for the next morning.

However, the great deeds on US Airways' part aren't finished yet...I look at my seat assignments for all four of my flights, and all four of them are in First Class. I am flying to MSY / KMSY), USA - Louisiana">MSY on an el cheapo-class fare, and yet I'm in First Class having paid this el cheapo-class fare. I certainly wouldn't expect this treatment on American or Delta, that's for sure.

Great customer service. But devaluing their First Class product like this is hardly going to help them out of bankruptcy.

most likely economy class was full on the new flights you selected.

their recommodation policies evidently allow for this.

it's your lucky day!

Most people in US First are preferred members, who all receive unlimited domestic upgrades. How could they devaluate the product further? All US First is: bigger seats, free booze from plastic cups, a couple of extra snack choices. They don't even have hot food on flights to the west coast anymore. Reaccommodating somebody up front does nothing to devaluate the product.

In all honestly, Jetdeltamsy probably hit the nail on the head. Although we would all like to believe that US did you a favor by putting you in F, I would be hard pressed to think that they voluntarily did that simply because they were being nice. The case was probably that Y was full and according to their Contract of Carriage, they had to put you in F because that's all that was left.

Even so, you lucked out, and I hope you enjoy every minute of the larger seat and the free alcohol. Another positive spin would be that if US didn't have any Y seats to put you into, at least people are still booking with them. That combined with the recent financing from their Express carriers might mean a change in tune at US.

Actually, thats almost all carriers preference to do. If the airline cuts a flight that you are already confirmed on, you are allowed to request another flight and normally, if the seats are booked up for the newer flight, then you can be assigned in First Class.

Its the same thing if you were to arrive into the hub late and missed your connecting flight. If the flights for the next day are already booked up, you go in First Class. Its not friggin rocket surgery.  biggrin

SHUPirate, your thread title is wrong!

It should read: US Airways and What A Great Airlines They WERE!

When I arrived in CLT from SFO...my baggage showed up on the wrong carosel. The monitors said it would be on C and it showed up on D...wasn't much of an inconvenience for me...just kinda irritating after getting off a red eye flight.

Actually US slashing fares has helped me avoid DL and stupid simplifares all together and start flying through CLT instead of ATL, very nice! Of course it appears now that DL is starting to match those in the two markets I mostly fly now. I'll stick with US till April!

I flew US from PVD to SFO this past week. Nothing but great service from a wonderful crew. That's why I fly them every chance I get.

Well, so much for the theory about these flights being full, because that's obviously not the case...

The opposite of the "Why US Airways Lost My Business" thread.... how come everything is so inconsistent with them?

They are very inconsistent. In the experience of my family and myself USelessAirways varies widely from acceptable to piss poor. You get different answers on a matter depending on who you talk to. The service on the plane is usually decent but that doesn't make up for diddley squat if the plane doesn't move.

Flu about 10 times with US Airways. 7 out of 10 had a bad experience with the checkin agents, F/As and some other staff members. 3 out of 7 had very bad experience and all with checkin agents (wrote about one in "Why US Airways Lost My Business" thread)
Out of ten flight the only 1 flight that I would remember that I had a nice time from the time I checked in till got my bags was PIT-SFO in 1st class. Friendly staff, good food (in plastic though).

So, VgnAtl747 - you do the math...
