I saw a picture of it in the Newark Star Ledger, however it was kind of a distant picture with not much detail.
I'll tell you what I know from my recent visits and pictures I have seen in the papers.
First they have completed a new baggage facility between concourse # 2 and the new concourse.Very modern baggage sorting facility,I watched them put it up with all the new tunnels leading to it.On top of the baggage facility they have completed on the outside a new Presidents Club, this club will be their largest by far.Huge glass walls facing the tarmac which are about two to three stories high. They are reducing Monorail service this Summer on weekends in order to work on upper levels of the new Presidents Club and new concourse.
At top of Terminal C they are building a large control tower,I assume this will be for Continental's ground controlers.
So far they have completed some sort of building next to concourse two and connected it to the new Presidents Club that already has four gates in and ready to go.I'm very confused myself about how this will look in the end but I can say it will be very big.On the other side of this building are no gates or windows but on the ground floor there are glass walls with many glass doorways, kind of like a outdoor mall.It looks like they are putting in store fronts, but I doubt it.Probably it either facilitys faor ground crews like a cafeteria and lounge,or waiting areas for Continental Express where people will walk out ot the planes. The gates on the other side are too close together for widebodies which makes me think they are either more narrowbody gates or gates for Regional Jets.
The new concourse itself has not got past the driving the piling phase yet,the new concourse it self will be connected to the building already nearly completed with the four gates, and to the new Presidents Club.
The new concourse from what I read will be able to handle twelve widebodies, now whether that means twelve gates or just that it can handle twevle widebodies I dont know. From what I've seen in the papers it is going to be very nice with lots of glass, very large like conmcourse # 1 at Terminal C.
Right now Continental Expreses aircraft park very close to runway 11-29 where they are building or have finished already new taxiways for the new concourses.
On the side of Terminal C is where they are building the new Customs and Immigragtion hall. This is going to be a large facility which might necessitate the demolition of the current Continental Express Concourse,Im not sure.Any way it will be a multi level facility much like the current International/customs facility at Terminal B.
They are expanding outwards the corridors between the current concourse 2 and link it with they new areas, which will provide much more retail areas.I believe they are going to do this for the area betwen concourses one and too.
The lower level of the Terminal which was parking is under construction to be turned into the new arrivals area with ten new oversized baggage carosels.
They have closed off portions of the short term and daily lots in the front but I dont see any pillings being driven yet for the new parking garage. The parking garage near the long term monrail station is well under way.As is the new control tower behind the Marriott.
Some old cargo buildings are currently being demolished at the North Area to be replaced with a new Port Authority Administration Building and rescue facilities. The curent building and control will eventually be demolished to allow for mor etaxiways and hard stand areas.
United is building a new cargo building but Im not sure if Continental has started theirs yet,or their new hangars, engine shop or parts warehouse.
As you can tell from my post alot is going on and Im not exactly sure what everything is or how far along they are.
The monorail by the way is almost to the Station on the North Eastb Corridor tracks, and the station itself is up and being filled out now.
