Glad to see 5 on the DTW-AMS route again. It's been awhile! To bad it isn't a KLM MD-11. But at least the DC-10 will be back in Detroit for a bit.

Do you know which DC-10 will do the fly back?? A plane that came in from MSP? Since the DTW flight would only have about an hour for turn around.

I heard somewhere that BOS-AMS is supposed to be taken over by KLM. Anyone else heard that rumour and is there any substance to it?

Either way, robin egg blue or a steel grey A330. I'll take it...just PLEASE don't put the DC-10 back.

I thought that SEA was going to 333 out of Amsterdam. And yes, too bad the DC10 is back on DTW.
I'm surprised that this baby leaves Amsterdam at 13.00. Most KLM longhauls leave at about 14.00/14.30.
Last couple of years departures were around 08.00, 11.00, 14.20, 16.30 and 19.15, but I guess that late departure would be limited in connecting traffic out of Detroit.

Neilalp, DTW is THE NW hub so I don't see why KLM should bother flying into DTW.
But then again, in previous years they did, also MD11s and 747s into MSP.

I find IND-AUS most intriguing. Whats the motive behind this route?

LH423,

Personally, I never heard that KLM would be taking over the BOS-AMS from NW; now that KLM is part of AF, I don't know how much liberty KLM has in adding additonal routes under their colors.

From what I've heard on other NW / BOS-AMS threads; it is believed (much to your dislike?) that NW will be flying DC-10s on that route during the spring and summer. It will switch back to the A330 (probably for good) sometime in the fall.

LH423,

Your profile shows that you have never flown on NW let alone an NWDC-10! If that is correct, what do you not like about NW flying a DC-10-30 BOS-AMS?

all the recent NW service announcements I have found to be loaded in Worldspan, with the sole exception of the 3rd daily MCI-IND. Have they reconsidered that option or just havent quite figured out where the A/C will come from at this point?

RJNUT,

I checked PARS and the three MCI-IND flights are in there, two on CRJ's and one on A319.

AA B777-200,

AMS is the KLM hub! Or DTW is the NW hub. What's your point? KLM has flown to DTW in the past and with profit being 50/50 on all flights over the Atlantic I don't see why it makes a difference.

Also I find KLM service to be better than NW's. Well at least before the A330's. More food service, but on a flight back from CDG on NW this past summer I felt the food service was par to KLM's International service.(back in 02 or 03 when KLM flew to DTW.)

No. As far as I can see, it'll still be operated by NW. It's in PARS

I see that NWA is going to fly Saturday only nonstops from DTW-Cancun until the end of July.....they used to only fly nonstops during winter/spring.

I think IND is an A319...there is a 757-200 but that makes a stop in MSP.

That is correct. I have nothing against the plane itself, just rather that I love how sleek those A330s look in the Northwest colours.

It looks like OKC will go all avro after having some DC-9's to MEM and DTW. I wonder if the loads were not good enough, or if the aircraft are simply better dispached somewhere else. This is good for OKC pax since the Avro has the most comfortable coach product in the US in the 69 seat configuration.

OKC flip-flops back in forth between all Avro and a few DC-9's. Likely now since during the winter DC-9's were put on since more Avro's were needed for ASE flying.

NW will operate all DTW/MSP/MEM - AMS routes, in addition to BOS & SEA. It makes more sense for NW to operate flights out of their hubs and let KLM have the non-hub cities like EWR, IAD, ATL, LAX, SFO, etc.

CID-MEM- I don't understand why they haven't started this
CRW-MEM/MSP for southern destinations and and MSP for northern/western destinations.
CRW-DTW upgrade to CRJ on at least one flight.

At this rate NWA will be looking for a few 380's to replace this summers 5 frequencies over a 6 hour period DTW AMS. That would be the corker!

What about expansion at PDX. That certainly seems to have died a quick death.

I am waiting for NW expansion on the west coast to Japan or past it.

If NW bought an A380, they would only need maybe two. One going DTW-AMS and one going AMS-DTW. Maybe four to make twice daily each. But after that...no need for the A380.
