I wonder if any of the DFW-LAX and LAS segments will be operated with 737s? Could a 717 do DFW-LAS-ATL since LAS-ATL is eastbound ?

So much for the theory of some that FL had lost interest in DFW. They are adding capacity on the routes they already fly and will eventually expand to new destinations.

I didn't know they were going to add freq to LAS and LAX from DFW. These aircraft have to get to DFW from somewhere. I don't see any increase to ATL or any other cites out of DFW. Does anybody have any idea where they are getting the extra aircraft from. I heard that BWI and ATL were also supposed to have increase in service.

The extra aircraft are coming from LAX and LAS, as they are also adding more ATL-LAX & LAS flights as well. The DFW-LAX & LAS aircraft will return to ATL from the west.

If that is the case does that mean the new additions will all be 737's. I don't think the 717 can make it from LAS or LAX to ATL. I know when they do equip swaps on the 737 they always make a fuel stop both directions in DFW. It was a great site one morning seeing 5 717's sitting on the ramp.

I just took a quick look at the seat maps and did a little mock routing based on the given times. Obviously the additional ATL flights will be run with 73G's. The DFW flights will be a mix of 717's and 73G's. The 717's will get to LAX or LAS and then turn around back to DFW. The 73G's will arrive from ATL and then turn to DFW or arrive from DFW and then turn back to ATL. The exact breakdown isn't known yet as it doesn't appear that the new LAX-DFW and LAS-DFW flights have been loaded yet.

Congrats to FL for the expanded services. I think they have a great business model and I hope that they do well with the increased frequency.

Whoever made this up was totally wrong or just not keeping up with the news. AirTran has announced publically that there would be a focus city at DFW, announced well over a year ago now. It just doesn't happen over-night or suddenly after the DL pull-out like some may think.

I hope to see RDU-DFW added in the future if not replacing a RDU-ATL frequency. While working for FL at RDU, a large portion of connecting ATL traffic continued on to DFW. Not to say, it will make a nice alternative to AA's high fares on the route! Of course there would be more to consider than that, but I could not find any figures on the route, any good resources for such?

So Airtran will be able to do what Southwest can not. Direct flights from Dallas to Las Vegas. Good job Airtran! Hopefully they will give WN a run for there money in there own home town. I really think they owe Southwest back for what they did with ATA.

AA is in no condition to take on Airtran in DFWbox

Even 3 dailys between both DFW, ATL-LAS, LAX isn't alot. I believe that in order to get more business travelers, at least 3 dailys are needed if not 4 or 5, if the aircraft are available. These additions will help lure those AMR and DAL passengers looking for more frequency options. These flights will also improve connection options at DFW and ATL also improves station utilization at LAS and LAX.

Does anyone know if these flights have been running full?

Zippyjet's lovin it! Keep the good news coming! And, I hear little birdies within our company tweeting that we here at BWI may get a nonstop flight to LaLa land or Viva Las Vegas  Smile Of course on one of our 737-700's.

I was thinking that the routing could go like this.

These would be the new additions:
ATL-LAS-DFW-LAS-ATL B737
ATL-LAX-DFW-LAX-ATL B737

And the existing flights are:
ATL-DFW-LAS-DFW-FLL/RON B717
ATL-DFW-LAX-DFW-ATL B717
ATL-LAX-ATL B737
ATL-LAS-ATL B737

It would be nice if Air Tran could offer DFW- RDU, DFW-BWI, or DFW-BOS. I just don't like going east from DFW and connecting through ALT.

A DFW hub for Air Tran could fly to any US (lower 48) airport using their B-717s.

I heard a "local" radio commercial for AirTran tonight here in Indy. The spot was not specific as to destinations. I got on their website and it shows direct non-stops from IND to ATL and TPA but on the reservation page does not give IND has an option. I was at the airport (IND) last week and did not see anything there to indicate a new airline serving IND. Does anyone know when the service will begin? Does anyone know what gates at IND FL will use and where their counters will be located? I'm pretty sure they will be using the 717 on flights in and out of here. It will be nice to see DL getting some competition to points south.

Well I was wondering what they were going to do with all of the upcoming deliverys, but making a ATL-LAX-ATL-LAS-ATL will probably use up the day for one aircraft. Weekend fares DEN-LAS are unbelievable. I checked last weekend (nascar weekend), the cheapest I could find last minute was over $500.

With the fares increasing 15% overnite with DL pull out, it's a real opportunity for AirTran to come in and get some business. Plus the incentives that the airport is offering are bad either.

Any chance we may see FL start DFW-CAK/SFO when they bring on more planes? Myabe F9 will prove that CAK can handle mainline planes to the west. And SFO seems a great west coast fit for FL, though I'm not expecting much from SFO with it high prices.

Very true, they need to increase the frequencies as the 737-700's are delivered.

Why not? They are healthier than the other legacies and they cannot ignore an invasion of the home turf. They will not sit idle while Airtran expands LCC presence at the DFW airport.

The website should have an announcement under press releases about start dates and destinations, frequencies, etc.

They need to add more service and make DFW a true hub. They can easily fly about 50 or 60 flights a day as aircraft are delivered and it will relief ATL when the springtime storms roll through.

Good for AirTran!!!!!!  Smile

LAS-DFW was dominated by AA and HP. AA to expensive and HP not my favorite way of flying.......  Sad

Great to see AirTran growing, plus I love their new fleet. Brand new 737's and 717.

Yeah............  Smile Smile Smile Smile

Here you go - service from IND to ATL (3x/day) and TPA (1x/day) starts April 9th, and IND-MCO (1x/day) starts June 7th.
