Brandenburg Int'l Airport

Are they building a new airport in Berlin? I heard they were, but I haven't found much info about it. With all the construction goin on there, it would surprize me if they didn't. Anybody have any more information about this?

Sprechen zie deutsch? I found this site about Brandenburg Int'l Airport in Berlin, but it's all in German and I don't speak German.
Here's the address: http://www.berlin-airport.de. Could someone who speaks German check it out and give a brief synopsis on what it says?

Danke Schoen!

Hi Louis,

i just checked the site. I couldn't find the confirmation/the go ahead approval.
The issue of this a/p has been and is still heavily debated among German politician. On one hand the company resposible for the evaluations and planning handed over it's results last year. Then came the case that some corporates involved in bidding for the project were accused of paying money to get the bids awarded. This scandal delayed the already debated subject further more.

There hasn't been real construction as such yet. They have been spending millions on feasabilitiy studies and planning nothing else. The risk is that if this delya continues the might have to redo a lot of planning as the old stuff would be by then outdated!

The new Berlin Brandenburg International (BBI) airport will be built on the site of the Schoenefeld airport (SXF). A very surprising decision, giving that the two other proposed sites were much better suited in terms of future expansion and possible conflicts with residents.
