Another US Air A319 Leaves The Fleet

Sat Mar 19, 2005 9:28 pm

A319 N727UW ferried Pittsburg-Goose Bay-Shannon 18-19/3. Probably for a new life with GermanWings.

What is the reasoning behind N727UW leaving the US fleet? Did its lease run out or was it another reason? Glad to see it will have a new owner...

Cheers,
Ian.

It's Pittsburgh. Sorry, we're rather anal about that.

What is the reasoning behind N727UW leaving the US fleet?

It's one of the 10 A319s that US is returning to GECAS this year. As said, the planes are headed to Germanwings.

I believe this is the third or fourth plane to go, but I could be mistaken, I haven't been paying a whole lot of attention to which planes have left.

I was gonna put Pittsburgh but thought it looked wrong and more like "Pittsborough" so left it as it was ! .

We have an Edinburgh over here and it's not pronounced "Edinberg", it's pronounced "Edinbr" so therefore Pittsburgh should be pronounced "Pittsbr". You Yanks never could speak English properly anyhow!!! .

US is returning 15 737s to GECAS in 2006-2007, and rejecting the leases on about 11 737s in May.

...or not aware of how the bankruptcy game works for UA and US? Under U.S. bankruptcy law, the only airlines who have aircraft repossessed for non-payment of leases or amortization installments are those who have managed to avoid bankruptcy.

Your not the only one, lol, Pittsburgh is the most misspelled city in America.

Back to the subject, as said before, the A319 leaving wasn't a surprise. Hope it haves a happy life with Germanwings.

N727UW was the second to leave, sistership N726US left 3 or 4 weeks ago and is in Europe being prepared for Germanwings. One per month will follow, total of 9 319's being returned to GECAS for Germanwings and one A-320 (N101UW) also being returned to GECAS but not sure what carrier she is going to.

I'd guess that Cincinnati probably wins for most misspelled city in America. That, or Worcester, Mass.

Best town name ever has to be the sleepy little town in South East England called "Sittingbourne". Honestly, don't ever come here, I would pay to be thrown out of this town!

Since we are in cross Atlantic humor/humour mode - the "John Cleese Letter to America" from December 2004 is a must read. You'll find it here.  duck

It is actually a proven fact that Pittsburgh is the most misspelled word. I forget you did, maybe some dictionary company, but Pittsburgh was misspelled the most amount of times on things that were available to the public. Most people forgot the "h."

Who would fly that aircraft back to Europe? Does GECAS have flight crews?

I would say Worcester would be more mispronounced than it would be misspelled. But I guess the misspellings stem from the pronounciation and vice versa.

For those of you on here that are confused by this, it's pronounced 'wooster' (or 'woostah' with the bawstun accent) not worchester.

Does somebody have a seat plan of these A319's? Would be interesting since we have different seat plan A319/A320 versions already in operation.

I can never get Cincinnati to look right when I write it, no matter what. Pittsburgh I never had a problem with, since that's the way I order my steaks!

Correct. It's because it's from an external source. If it's a gif or jpg file then just use the [ img ] [ /img ] tags as normal and it''ll work.

Pittsburg is on the Sacramento/San Joaquin delta, and I was surprised that US would be flying an A319 out of there. Thanks to A330323X for clarifying it. Now it makes sense.
