Unusual Activity Around EMA?

Tue Mar 22, 2005 2:34 am

Ive just been told by a friend of mine, she was out shopping in nottingham today and she saw a large plane, maybe 100ft from the top of the buildings in the town center.

I cannot find anything in the news, she says that she has never seen anything like this before (only the police chopper)

anyone else have any information?

Cheers,

TFSPhoto

No idea, but recently I have noticed that aircraft arriving into EMA do come over the west of Nottingham quite low, much lower than I remember in the past. If it is a 'large' plane it could have been a freighter or an aircraft doing touch and go circuits.

Now do you really think if she was shopping she had time to see what type of aircraft much less the altitude it was flying. A plane could crash into the mall and my wife would not take her eyes off the price tags Big grin!!

Seeing this thread reminds me - I was driving past EMA the other Sunday (13th) and a plane was coming in to land from the east. Prob around 15:00 ish. As I was driving I couldn't get a long, decent look at it, and SHMBO doesn't know one end of a plane from the other, so couldn't help. Anyway, it was a twin engined, high wing plane - but the engines above the wing. At a guess it was Russian - can anyone confirm? Also what airline, where from etc?

Thanks!

That'd be a Ukrainian-built An-72/-74, although that's as far as I can help  Smile
