Air Scandic?!?!?

Wed Mar 23, 2005 2:49 am

I'm flying with Airtours in the summer from Newcastle to Tenerife.
But I'm totally confused about which airline I'll be flying with.

According to the Airtours website, I'll be flying on Air Scania (or Air Scandic) flights SCY6921 & SCY6922. But according to the Newcastle airport website, I'll be flying on Excel Airways flights XLA4178 & XLA4179.

When I looked on airfleets.net, it indicated that Air Scandic don't have any active aircraft at the moment.

Is this because they just wet lease aircraft from people like Excel Airways?

Can anyone help, I wouldn't mind finding out what airline/aircraft I'll be travelling on.

Thanks in advance,

I'm guessing it's the Tuesday flight?
It will indeed be on an Air Scandic 757 (leased from Finnair in Finnair c/s), operating on behalf of Excel Airways, for Airtours/MyTravel

Hope that didnt confuse you  Cool  spin

Didn't confuse me at all.
Thank you very much Mr Kirk.

I should have put money on you having the answer.
In fact I was thinking of e-mailing you direct.

Thanks again,

hi, my Mum works at NCL for XLA and, backing up Gkirk, it will definately be operated by SCY on an MD-83 or a Fiinnair 757.

An MD-83?

That would be different... sick of flying 757's and 737's.

Thanks Burberry753,

Air Scandic were advertising for NCL based staff as junior cabin crew in the local paper last week. It will be a 757 on behalf of XLA.
Why drive when you can fly?

Do Air Scandic have any of their own aircraft anymore or do they just lease stuff in as and when.

It's sounds like a strange set up to me.

Why don't Excel just lease a plane off Finnair and bin Air Scandic?

Excel are leasing 2 of Islanflg's 734's for the summer and basing them at NCL. SCY just lease other airline's aircraft and use tour operators to sell their flights with their crews. I agree a very strange setup, have u been oin their clip art website? lol

Yes... very state of the art.

Just had another quick look at it. Noticed the section about pre-booking seats. It's a bloody con that. But the trouble is, if everyone did and you didn't, you could end up sat on your tod for the full flight. Hhhhmmm... what should I do?

PS Burberry... are you a proper smoggy or do you just live in smoggy land?

Both of the ex-Air Scandic A300s are now flying for MNG Pax - the passenger division of the Turkish cargo airline.

They are some of the last "classic" A300B4s before the -600 model was introduced, built 1984, but the pair are oddballs because they have an all forward-facing flightdeck crew (FFCC).

As far as I'm aware they are the only A300B4s still in service with a 2 crew flightdeck, as opposed to the normal 3 crew on other classic A300s. Apart from Finnair/Karair the only other customer for the A300B4 FFCC was Garuda Indonesia, but their fleet has long since been retired.

MNG are currently operating TC-MNY (G-TTMC) on behalf of Turkish Airlines, and TC-MNZ (G-SWJW) on behalf of Jetair/TUI Airlines Belgium.

They are currently using a Viking Airlines MD83 SE-RDF for charter servies from Manchester, been operating for them since middle of October. In summer they will lease a 757 and a MD83 off Finnair.

"Both of the ex-Air Scandic A300s are now flying for MNG Pax - the passenger division of the Turkish cargo airline. "

But why does at least one of them presently carry the titles of a totally different company (Turkish Airlines)? Anyone from Turkey around?

(edit)
"A300B4 FFCC was Garuda Indonesia, but their fleet has long since been retired."

Actually, a number of them were employed by Tunisair, but evidently they were originally unable to take delivery of the pair as planned, so Karair (Finnair) snatched them for charter work in 1984, in which role they've been ever since.
