Thai's New Livery

Wed Mar 23, 2005 5:31 am

I think Thai Airways made a big mistake on there new livery. The old one had a very regal look to it. The new one kinda reminds of the current UPS livery. The title on the front on the fuselage should have been bigger and also should have been purple. Any comments???

Thai always makes mistakes, the CEO is an aviation unknown, and hmm I just hate the monopoly fares they offer domestically (no discounts, no deals, always one flat fare)

The new scheme is stunning, not sure what you want from a scheme but its very modern and clear.

I'm disappointed with the new livery. This one would have been much better. It's stunning.

The new livery is an abomination - I think it looks tacky and cheap. The old livery was one of the best in the air and still fresh after 25 years - why change it?  Sad

Personally I think TG's domestic fare structure is great.

I like it. Much better than the trend of all white. Compared to many other airline's "new colors" i'll take TG any day.

Braybuddy.....I do like your livery example. It would be nice to see the logo on the fuselage instead of just the tail

I think it would look better if the word "Thai" was in all caps and as tall as the fuselage in the front. i think considering the back half / tail is colorful the font is a little small for the color scheme

It could be worse.....It could be TAP Air Portugal.

While I've always liked Thai's now old colors (cheatlines rule!), this new one does look pretty fresh.

I still think they took UPS's livery and just made a few minor changes to it.

The old scheme, as classy it was, had become a bit used up. 25 years is a very long time. Although undoubtedly the basic design is very close to UPS livery its one of the best new liveries of the past few years. I agree the front end is boring and larger titles would have been better.
Like with many recent schemes I highly doubt this livery´s endurance though. 15 years, I don´t give it more.

It looked fabulous in the 70's where nobody had anything like as colourful a livery, nor the emblem at the end of the cheatline like that, and on a DC10 it looked wonderful - now, with all this long thin twinjets, it just looks a bit dull, and it needed refreshing. I love the new TG livery - the titleing on the forward fuselage should have been bigger, and the engines painted that lovely purple, but apart from that, it's magic.

Bigger - yes (For marketing reasons)
Purple - not sure about if it's purple.

I do indeed like the new Thai livery. Of course the old one was classic but it was "worn out" a bit. I think the new livery is very modern although as said here before, the Title could have been a bit bigger...

Call me an old stick-in-the-mud (or an incorrigible disco baby), but I think there just was no showing up the old TG livery. It fit any make, although it worked especially well on a fat-a## MD-11.

New is not necessarily better; Iberia's livery is as old as the hills, and it looks wonderful. And Continental's old "meatball" scheme was AOK. A lot of the older Asian liveries are just fab - how about Malaysia's flying jellyfish? Or Biman?

The new Thai livery just might make a 737 look good - now there's a feat. On the longer airbii, though, it does look a bit like a kotex in drag.

Speaking of which... Braybuddy, I'm going to have to take respectful issue with you on the spoof livery. Yes, the device itself looks great, and painting the winglets is a slick touch, but what with the colours and the blob on the aft fuselage...

It's enough to drive anyone back to Loganair's tweed.
