Siberia New Livery Revealed

Wed Mar 23, 2005 9:17 pm

Only a few hours ago a mate of mine was at Vnukovo on 'assignment' and caught the new Siberia Airlines livery. A range of pics of the aircraft can be found at the link below.....

http://www.aviatsiya.ru/forums/viewtopic.php?p=2053

Next aircraft to follow I am told is A310 in the near future.

Now THAT's a striking colour scheme. No-one could accuse Siberia Airlines of mind-numbing euro-white!

It's interesting that they are changing their identity from "Sibir" to "S7". It would be interesting to know the thinking behind that significant change.

I expect these planes will be real head turners wherever they land.

The new livery makes it certainly very easy to recognize the airline, there is no chance whatsoever of getting confused.

I find it a smart move that they use the name "S7" now, no more Cyrillic letters on the plane - thus giving the airline a more international (Western) flair. And at the same time it promotes their 2-letter code as well as their website. Yes, a very smart move indeed.

Didn't they have an accident last year, possibly one of the two aircraft that was blown up by Chechyn terrorists?
Striking colourscheme. I like it.

I think the call sign should be "dayglow"! Whoa! Looks bizarre on a Soviet era plane. Just say no to dayglow!

I believe the rebrand was done by Landor. What is the significance of "7"? And what's with the people? If they took the random people off the scheme I think it'd be a decent scheme, especially for a low cost carrier.

To me it looks incongruous to the arctic context. Where's the colour link to the local environment, the tundra, permafrost?

Personally I think it looks fantastic, but more like the colour of value driven carrier shuttling along the US mainland's eastern seaboard.

S7 is their call and flight code and I guess it makes for easier identification for passengers at the various airports. Though the new colour scheme would certainly make them stand out!!!

Aeroflot proved well that Russian carriers are capable of stunning new liveries;

S7 obviously doesn't agree and did THAT in protest Big grin

Braniff lives on! At least it beats looking at the old-school Soviet-era Aeroflot-based liveries. Aeroflot's and Siberia's new colors have livened up Russian skies.

When I saw it on the internet like a year ago I thought "yuck", but now that a real plane carries it, I must admit I kinda like it. It is better than the dull, ex-SU, all-white-with-the-russian-flag, cirylic-titles livery that most Russian airlines carry, and indeed it takes no time to recognize it between other aicraft at an airport.

I think it's a good idea. It for sure separates itself from the traditional white with blue stripe. I also think it gives it a LCC flare style which may cause people to think that it's a radical and low cost airline, which it is. Who says that planes have to be 'traditional' and conservative.

S7, despite have a few LCC-ish routes, is a full service carrier. The fact that its prices are reasonable has more to do with labor and fuel cost than with LCC-type policies.

Thumbs up from me too  thumbsup  Gotta love a colorful aircraft, last time I saw a full yellow or green plane was in pictures of Hughes Airwest.. will love to see this one in person. Now if they could get rid of the people on the fuselage... use that space and put the letters "Sibir" in there.. that might work better visually speaking.

However, I still think the old scheme was more elegant. I thought it was more pleasing to the eye than the NEW Aeroflot colors (which aren't bad), just not very innovative color or design wise.

Dude, I love it! Especially on the TU-154 -- without a doubt the most graceful-looking passenger jet going, whatever its record -- it looks so wonderfully retro and space-age.

Now, stopover fantasy: all you need is to queue that one up beside Air Jamaica, HLX express, Air MAdagascar and Tahiti Nui...

Simply great! That's exactly what I wanted to see on a dba aircraft, because the color is great, but there's too much white in the dba sheme. So, I think Sibir just read my thoughts and put this fantastic livery on their aircraft... Big grin

This one is gonna be a favourite of many spotters! I'll bet we'll be seeing lots of pics of it in the near future on this site and it'll sure make for some great shots! Maybe it's strange, maybe some people find it ugly but it's a good PR act for the carrier.

Does anybody else think that the Tu-154 is one hell of a great looking plane - no matter what the color?! Luv' those babies!

Happy flying everyone!
