Gabon 747 F-ODJG To Be Scrapped

Thu Mar 24, 2005 5:20 am

After many years of plying its trade, mainly on the Paris route, 'Leon M'ba' is heading to the scrapyard at Vatry, east of Paris.

Seeing as the airline loses money for fun and Gabon's oil production is falling this is probably a good move although the parrot will be missed!

Aw , that is such a pity. Was always a regular here at JNB and will be missed.

RIP F-ODJG!

Fortunately I took some nice pictures of this rare bird at CDG in the past years. As sad as it is that it´ll be scrapped now, 27 years is not a bad age to be retired for a hard-driven airliner. Bad that Air Gabon has no successor for its flagship. Aren´t they flying a bland 767 now in its place?

They have(or should I say, had?)their own 767-200 but that hasn't been into CDG for a few months now.The bland 763 is operated by Air Atlanta for Air Gabon I believe now.

This was actually a regular at YYZ in the early 90's. AF leased it I think 3 days/week and used it regularly on CDG-YUL/YYZ services.
I dumped at the gybe mark in strong winds when I looked up at a Porter Q400 on finals. Can't stop spotting.

This is true, but I could never figure out why. When I lived in Gabon 1990-92 that plane was always packed full. In addition, the fares were astronomical.

If they have loads o passengers paying lots of money, then there must be lots of revenue.

If they are losing money then they must have very high costs, (way above average).

Either they are inefficient, pay too much for fuel, staff etc, or someone has his hand in the till.

How about "all the above" from my sources in LBV
