GOL Brazil-USA: Just An Idea

Fri Mar 25, 2005 9:40 am

Considering that GOL is so successful and they have started to expand international, wouldn¡¦t it make sense for them to start flying to the USA?
The 737-800 are now capable of flying long-haul, especially with winglets, so I figured they can do it out of Manaus and Brasilia. Here is my idea:

Use Manaus as a connecting point to the rest of Brazil with the following flights

GIG - (4hrs) - MAO (5hrs) - FLL <-- only daily nonstop service
GRU- (4hrs) - MAO (6hrs) - ORL <-- only direct service Brazil -Orlando
SSA- (4.5hrs) -MAO -(5hrs)- MIA <-- only daily nonstop service

GIG - (6hrs) CCS - (5hrs) - JFK

BHZ - (3hrs) BSB - (7:50 hrs)- MIA

Other ideas:
GRU-PTY-LAX ( but that will compete directly with Copa.)
Add MAO-CCS or MAO BOG or BSB-CCS or BSB-BOG

Those routes above have little competition and knowing that GOL can fill a plane with their great fare and service, I am sure they wont have any problem selling those daily flights. What do you think?

Quoting Xkorpyoh (Thread starter):
GIG - (6hrs) CCS - (5hrs) - JFK

BHZ - (3hrs) BSB - (7:50 hrs)- MIA

11 hours on board an LCC/737... man that would suck  crazy

Anyways, there were rumours about them flying to MIA some time ago. Only rumors though.

I guess it's possible, you won't arrive at your best mood whatever your destination is, but they sure could fill in some seats especially the ones leaving from MAO and maybe SSA (I think REC or NAT would be a better idea).

Who knows.. any one else on the idea?

Cheers,

well.. the idea is to have flights from REC, NAt, FOR and Belem to connect in MAO to those US destinations.
I know that 737 is not the best for long haul, but i figured is not much different than a 757 long haul. At least GOL has those nice LCD screens like the A320s. I am sure that for the price, people would take it even on 11horus flight. PEople take buses for that long or more because is cheaper than fliying in many cases, so it is not much differnet, but you get to at least see movies.

I have never been to the Manaus airport. Is it good enough to use it as a mini-hub?
