Why Was SAA A346 In ATL In Afternoon March 18?

Mon Mar 28, 2005 5:43 am

Yesterday, I returned to ATL from DUB. I flew Aer Lingus from DUB to AMS and KLM from AMS to ATL. Upon landing at about 2:15 p.m., I noticed that the SAA A346 was still at the international terminal. Normally this plane leaves around 10:00. Why was it still in ATL? Were there mechanical problems or was it late departing JNB or CPT?

They wanted to hold her up so you could catch a glance of her before she left  Wink

Quoting Airplanetire (Thread starter):
Yesterday, I returned to ATL from DUB.

Posted on the 27th so I doubt the weather on the 18th had anything to do with it! I'll find out tomorrow (today is a holiday here) and post the reason.
After Monday and Tuesday even the calendar says WTF...

Title says "Why Was SAA A346 In ATL In Afternoon March 18?" but then he posts the 27th and refers to Yesterday. Which is it?

I believe the date in question is Saturday, March 26. I don't know the reason why it was delayed but I saw it leave the gate about one hour late, taxi to the end of the runway, then taxi back to the terminal. It was still there when I left work about 2:45 pm.

I saw the aircraft push back from the gate around 11:30AM on Saturday the 26th, but when I left for PHX on 26L around 2:15PM it was still there back at the same gate with the number 1 engine panels open, my guess would be mechanical.

Sorry about that guys. I certainly did mean the 26th. I was very tired when I wrote it though since I had gotten out of bed at 2:45 a.m. in Dublin and had not had any meaningful sleep by the time I wrote this in the evening in Atlanta. March 18th was the day I left. Sorry for the confusion.
