Big airlines have complained over the last few years that the industry was awash in seats. Now, rising fuel prices are forcing airlines to act.

A $10 fare increase is generally enough to offset the cost of fuel. Now that most of the hedging has evaporated industry wide its going to be easier to raise those fares which have been artificially deflated anyway.
