CO 787 Order Definitive , 737/757 Uncertain

Thu Mar 31, 2005 8:34 pm

CO today reached a deal with theire Pilots, in need of cost cutting, but the cabin attendents didn't wan't to co-operate with the cost cuttings, wich will give them a lower salary. However Co stated that the order of the 787, wich was rumoured to fall if they didn't reached an agree, will be definitif even if the cost cuttings aren't going to work. however the lease of 8 757-300's and order for 6 737-800's is still uncertain...

CO 787 Order Definitive , 737/757 Uncertain

Glad to hear they're going to get some much needed widebody aircraft. CO is really taking the advantage in going after the international markets, as the domestic market in the U.S. is extremely competitive and the bread and butter of the legacy carriers right now is the int'l markets.

From Continental via Bloomberg

The labor agreements will enable the airline to move forward
with plans to purchase 10 Boeing 787 aircraft beginning in 2009.
The company will also lease eight Boeing 757-300 aircraft starting
in a few months and will accelerate delivery of six Boeing 737-800
planes into 2006.

Seems they will get the 738s & 753s after all

Great news for Boeing and CO. Go 787!

I just wish it did not come at employee expense.  chat

At the employees expense?! This is more like investing in their employees and companys future. In the long run, they can only benefit from an expanded and profitable international network, and these aircraft are the tools they need to accomplish that.

Cwapilot...I completely agree!!! We aren't going to be BUYING the aircraft, just leasing them, which means we will actually be ADDING more jobs, moving all the flight crews up in seniority because of newhires so now, everyone should be happy and we have begun to secure our future as one of the last legacy carriers who will be left standing. Not completely out of the woods but this was a step in the right direction. Way to go all those unions who ratified thier contracts, you are the smart ones. We all get to keep our jobs now! Flight attendants.....suck it up!

I don't think it really comes at the employee's expense.
Let me be the first to say that I am a CO frequent flier but NOT an employee, so take what I say with that in mind, but...
I think that, by bringing in the 753s this summer, Conti will be able to put more 752s on transatlantic... where they MAKE MONEY.
By bringing in the 787s in the future, they can make MORE MONEY on current routes and open new routes to potentially make MORE MONEY.
The pay cuts had to come regardless of this order- CO publicly said that if the unions didn't ratify, the order would immediately be cancelled, and DEEPER CUTS WOULD BE DEMANDED, either nicely or through bankruptcy.
So how does that equate to employees paying for airplanes?
It doesn't.

What about CO's last 777 option. Will they pick that up?
