Airbus Codes

Mon Apr 04, 2005 3:23 am

Hey Guys. I am stuck with a question, I know that all boeings have a certain code, i.e. 06 for KLM. However also Airbus has these kinds of codes, i.e. a319-111, and the A320-100 and A320-200. What do these codes mean? Does it have to do sth with the engines installed?
I really hope u can give me some clue, I'll be flying on a A320 for the first time this wednesday!

Airbus has customer codes for their aircraft, just like Boeing does.

Nope, Airbi are coded by version, engine manufacturer and engine type. See here:

If they do, they are internal. The ones on the aircraft type are as starlionblue said, sub-type, engine manufacturer, engine derivative.

I know what the codes mean and I find it helpful to have the engine maker indicated but why have they missed out number 5? Number 4 is RR but they jumped straight to 6 for the Engine Alliance.

Any ideas why?
