"Just read in the Australian Aviation"

Slightly off topic but what do you think of the "new look" AA?

I find it VERY difficult to read compared with the "original" format. So much so that I'm thinking of cancelling my subscription and telling them to put the money towards changing it back or at least getting a decent graphic designer instead of someone's relation.

Is QF going to use the names of state capitals on the A380s, or maybe something else? How about the six states that make up the Commonwealth of Australis - New South Wales, Victoria, Queensland, Tasmania, South Australia and Western Australia?

I think they should be named "Langer", "Hayden", "Ponting", "Gilchrist", "Warne" and "McGrath".  Big grin

Don't forget the two territories. Primarily the Australian Capital Territory which is where the capital, Canberra, is.

Also naming them after the states only covers half the fleet.

Could also use the names of the two territories - Australian Capital Territory and Northern Territory, plus the four Commonwealth Countries QF serves - New Zealand, South Africa, India and United Kingdom.

And I think cricket should be banned and all cricketers savagely beaten. However both our wishes will probably go unheeded.

Is this a late April Fool's joke??

VH-VQA and VQB are both 717's with Jetstar?

I thought they were VH-OQA thru to OQZ which QF have reserved for their A380's.

I won't pass comment on some of the accuracy of articles in AA and the new format looks awful. I won't ever buy another issue. WAFN is buy far the best source out there available to us in Australia.

Nah.... needs a bit more legacy/history to the name. i.e. Boonie and Merv.

A tad boring isn't it? Can't we name them something more original. Can't wait to see another "City of Melbourne" flying around. Its so dull and unimaginative.

I'd love to see them all named after hot Australian women like the "Jennifer Hawkins" or "Elle MacPherson".  bigthumbsup

Don't forget Ashmore and Cartier Islands and Jervis Bay Territory while were nit picking.

And before you get on your high horse about Jervis Bay it is a separeate Commonwealth territory which is not governed by the ACT but the Commonwealth gave ACT courts jurisdiction in, and in relation to the territory as if it were part of the ACT. The ACT is contracted to carry out some administration of the territory for needs such as, motor vehicle registry, education, health etc.

Why do they have to use place names on the A380s. Take for instances the names on the 737-300 series aircraft for Qantas.

737-376
TAH - Adventure
TAK - Daring
TAV - Intrepid
TAX - Success
TAZ - Victory
TJA - Resolute
TJB - Fortitude
TJC - Endeavour
TJD - Gallant

The 737-300s are slowly being phased out so they could these listed above.

Having the name on the aircraft makes it easier to identify which aircraft you are flying on.

Or what about naming them after our politicians?
Or our flora and fauna?

I remember working in one company, and all of the printers were called after trees. It was nice to print to Blue Gum, rather than //drive_name/printer_name

PS The politician bit was a joke, I could think of nothing worse.

What about naming them after troubled businessmen?

Think about it
Alan Bond
Christopher Skase
Rodney Adler
Brad Cooper
etc

What about our beaches, national parks, rivers etc.

What about Bert Newton and Eddie Maguire. Lets face it, Eddie is on everything else.

Lol.

Or out flora and fauna?

Can you imagine an A380 called "Eucalyptus" or "Wattle". People around the world would be seriously wondering what goes on down under. I think a printer is different to a commercial aircraft.

The names need something with a bit of spark IMO, but I'd side with you on the flora and fauna over the "major cities" naming.

Somewhat ignorant question: What route(s) are QF's 380s going to be used on? SYD-LAX? Sydney-Hong Kong?

And according to Australia, we own a third of Antarctica.  Smile

This happens all over the world - hopefully in time Australia will have its sovereign territory recognised by foreign nations.

lol You suppose that I don't know that Jervis Bay is an independent territory? Ha - trying to jump the gun a little aren't we? I'm unsure as to where exactly I gave the impression I doubted the independence of Jervis bay from the ACT - having nightmares again Bill?

I would drop everything to fly "The Spirit of Gough Whitlam". Although the thought of riding John Howard makes me dry-reach.

Although, alot better if you name them after supermodels.

Or Kylie songs. That way QF would have capacity for a hell of a lot of A380's.
