Air India's B747

Fri Apr 07, 2000 10:21 pm

Does anyone know why Air India's 747s have extra sets of windows on its main deck ? The area in question is in the vicinity of the wing, between doors 2 & 3.
I know that the area are normally blanked off. Thanks.

I flew air India three times. The area in which your talking about has seats. If Air Idia is going to squeeze you in like cattle atleast they're nice enogh to give you a window seat :-) I saw this on their 747-200 and the 747-400. This airline is among many others who play the well known game called "how many seats can an airline fit into a 747" :-(

Its also on their -300s. Then again the -300s are Combis. Like the above poster said, they love to pack 'em in! I've flown on them several times, only because I had no choice, at least they used my favorite aircraft for the flight

Yep, there are seats there. Last time I flew Air India was on a 747-200 in Jan 1997. If I remember right those seats are either right next to the galley or lav. I remember those seats because I looked at them and wondered - "how in the heck to those people see the movie?"

Its tough luck for them to see a movie in a -200 unless they can peek into the next section, but I believe the -300s and-400s have aisle mounted monitors...

Hi, Triple Seven,
I think that what you are mentioning are the "painted" windows. Air India does that so that the pattern of "palace" windows is unbroken. Actually there are no real windows. The 747s of Air India are like all the other ones, not a special construction.
