Here's a thought I've had since hearing about CO
's service to FRS.
Flores is a nice town, but it's tiny. Really, all that's there is Tikal and Lake Peten. It is very inaccessible to the rest of Guatemala, or just about anywhere else for that matter. Yes, you can take what I think is an 8 hour bus ride to Belize, and about the same to GUA
/Antigua - someone correct me if I'm wrong - but these are on uncomfortable "chicken buses," i.e. retired American school buses, with lots of very local traffic.
I just don't see how there's enough of a market for nonstops to this place - a tiny town, a lake, and some ruins. While Tikal is great, it has nowhere near the draw of, say, Macchu Picchu.
And more importantly, you can't get anywhere else from there. If you want to "do Guatemala," you fly to GUA
, not FRS.
