Why Did You Choose To Connect In IND On NW?

Tue Apr 05, 2005 4:47 am

I know there are some people who are going to hate seeing this thread and to you I apologize. But this is something I am curious to find out about.

If you have in the past 4 months made a connection in IND with NW can you say why? Did you pick IND as your connecting airport or was it just assigned to you and you really didn't care? I was interested in hearing what makes a person use IND as their connecting point. The reason I finally asked this is that I am seeing that the IND-SEA flights seem to be filling pretty fast for June 9th and 10th and I find it hard to believe that these are all O/D. My guess is that a good number of the seats are connections.

Anyone care to comment on this?

They were running a nice WP-Elite challenge out of IND...it made it worth the ~$115 tickets down there to buy six B-fare tix to qualify for Gold after six r/ts out of IND.

Seeing as I go to the west coast 4-5x per month anyway, making the six b-roundtrips was a steal.

Plus, even as a silver, upgrades are a cinch.

Well, I kind of doubt that many are connecting. IND can support a daily 319 to SEA in the summer by itself, that I know. 380 passengers a day on a route w/ no competition should fill a 319 most times of the year no problem

If you don't mind me asking what is a B-fare? Also what route were you flying?

Actually, along with the non-stops from MKE (until they started promoting the hell out of IND), flights to-and-from IND were promoted heavily; with 1k each time you connected in IND.

They were (maybe they still are) offering vacation and WP awards for reduced rates if you went out of IND.

While I haven't personally yet booked through IND, I have taken mental note of the option to do so for an upcoming trip to BOS in May. To that end, I wouldn't steer clear of it for any reason except if the connection didn't make sense, i.e. was perceived as too long. On the other hand, save for the opportunity to see where NW operates at IND, I don't see a particular reason to connect specifically though there.

I did know, however, that there was once a promotion whereby if you cashed in some FF miles and did so connecting through IND that you could use, say, only 20k instead of 25k for a standard award redemption. That certainly is a reason to connect!

Just my two cents,

I think most people, specially those looking for the cheapest fare, couldnt care less where they connect.

I did not connect through IND, but I estimate about 95% of all travellers dont care about where they connect.

Ah. I did not realize that there were 380 a day. Is it odd that there are 380 a day and no one picked it up? BTW... How do you get the numbers? Is there a public DB for that?

It is a fare that is booked into B-class. B-class is the second-highest priced coach fare, second only to Y-class.

It is also generally about 30% less than Y, depending on the route, so you can achieve Elite status with a pretty low investment. I believe they were offering silver-elite status for only two r/t tix in B.

I recently did a WBC ticket from IND to CGN (through DTW and AMS). Was that enough to earn silver? Looking at the normal silver miles and what I earned I wouldn't think so. But I don't know what promos they are running.

Well...it might have been. Elite-Status challenges are done on a per-WP member basis. You should call the WP line and talk to them about a challenge; leverage the fact that they're trying to sell-up the IND market, and, if youre willing to purchase a few higher-priced tickets (more revenue for them), they can also help you out by giving you status, and building loyalty.

I'd be willing to bet that a lot of silvers get EUAs (upgraded) from IND.
