QF Nalanji B743 Scrapped?

Wed Apr 06, 2005 2:53 pm

Hey,

I was browsing photos on planepictures.net and came across this one:

http://www.planepictures.net/netshow.php?id=320594

It shows Nalanji parked at Avalon Airport in Australia with no engines.

Has VH-EBU been scrapped?

Really sorry if this has been discussed before, right now I don't have a lot of time to search the database.

No, it hasn't been scrapped  Smile. It is currently having its cabin re-fitted with new a style, IFE, seats, walls etc. All of the QF B743 fleet have had it already, this is the last one to be re-fitted

Just cause you don't like it you don't have to give an ignorant answer like that.

I along with many others think and know that it is one of the most beautiful liveries around along with Wunala! Have you ever seen them in person?

I think that Nalanji does even look better than Wunala, I don't know why, but it just looks better...:D

If you see that paint job you would never think that this aircraft is twenty years old.

Yes it's still going to be around!!!

I was hoping that if it was going to be scrapped it would be painted on a B747-400ER.

But this makes my day!

it's probably the best looking one out of the lot, but it's not being scrapped anytime soon, and if you don't like the look of it Mike, then look away!

You're not the only one who thinks so. Nalanji Dreaming's colors are superb, a true work of art to be appreciated. Wunala is an all-red indecent airplane with some abstract kangaroos and aboriginal art. No doubt stunning and we're glad it's around but that's it. On the other hand, Nalanji's colors and theme are truly beautiful and pleasing to the eyes.

I hope Qantas paints this scheme on a 744 if they retire that 743.

I like the colour schemes but hate hearing all this BS about where they are right now! I got to see Nalanji when picking a friend up from AVV who was flying JQ. They had it outside with all four engines completely removed. I thought it might have been the commencement of a D check. I think EBB was also there at the Avalon Airshow... (not sure on the reg, may have been the other one). Any news on why this one was there?

Nah... Its going to be painted on an A380. LOL (not true)

I would hope that one of the QF A380's would have something special on it.

In spite of a lack of any information in support of that speculation, I do tend to agree. If they do a special scheme for a 738, I think an A380 is a given.

Yeah I know... I was just secretly hoping. Hopefully when they retire Nalanji it will be a direct swap of colour scheme.

Why did they paint that 738? I don't really like that one, but I guess it had some kind of purpose but I'm not sure what that is.

Well, you got a point.I don't like it either.I liked the old one much more(the 80's one).My favourite livery is... PLEASE DON'T SHOOT ME!!! United old colors.

But still, dont like weird painted airplanes.Just my opinion.

highly unlikely to see it on the A380 or any other special scheme on the QF A380, the extra weight of Wunala on the 744 was close to a ton, it'd be far more then that to paint an A380 in a special scheme, so don't hold your breath on seeing it anytime soon, if ever.

Since QF flies its B 743s to BOM from SYD on a 3 weekly basis (days 3-5-7), would anyone be having information as to how the SYD-BOM-SYD route is performing for them loads and yields wise? Have they managed to dent the market share of SQ-MH-TG-CX on the India-Aust/NZL-India route or not that much?

I don't see why it should be that much heavier than an all-white regular Qantas colors. Unless they sprayed 100 coats of paint on this thing..

And intricate liveries go well on sleek, graceful planes. Put the Wunala c/s on an A380.. and that might not even look like a plane.  eyebrow

Note: AR1300, you're officially forgiven because I also liked the old, old (pre- '94) United colors. I'm afraid UA will never have a livery that good again; what a shame

because it adds an extra ton to the aircrafts weight, thats for the 744, it'd be alot more for the A380 as the area is quite bigger then that of the 747.
This had a significant impact on the operation of VH-OJB on trans-Pacific services and is one reason the famous scheme was moved onto an -ER.

Hey B...
had a look at the stats a few weeks ago. QF has grown their market share a little, but not as much as they had projected I think. The Australia-India market is VERY seasonal, with prob 70% of the year round travel taken Nov-April.

Here are some things to look out for:
* Australia-UK talks will happen in a few weeks. Both countries will work to give greater access via points in India. QF, BA and VS will look to operate via India to boost year round viability.
* VS is trying to increase BOM to daily. Once this happens, look out for a MEL or SYD extension
* The India-Aust sector is mostly tourist travel. These pax don't mind a free stopover thrown in. This works in favour of MH, TG, SQ etc.
* SQ's new morning departures ex-MEL now provide immediate onward connections to all points in India, and the Indian market prefers to travel with SQ, cos its a well know brand in the market.

Exciting times ahead on the sector though...

It was just marketing - welcoming a new member of the Qantas fleet.

Are they doing anything to the cockpit introducing any new LCD displays to the old three man flying cockpit? I read it in a Flight International issue.
