Using SQ F Class On Miles - *ever* Possible?

Wed Apr 06, 2005 8:56 pm

I tried booking an SQ F class ticket for myself and my wife using LH miles. I tried several dates and several European airports - all were full! Doesn't SQ open up its F class to mileage customers? Or simply not to other airlines' FFPs?

As far as I know has fellow A.net member Lufthansa747 booked a First Class flight on Singapore Airlines with his Lufthansa miles. I don't know if he is already back from his Asia trip but I am sure that he will post a trip report as always.

I heard at one time that SQ only allocates one (1) seat in F, on many of their routes, for FF awards. That's probably why you can't get 2 for yourself and your wife. In general SQ just doesn't like to give out free rides.

A friend of mine is flying EWR-SIN in F Class using his miles this summer. He just booked his ticket! He's taking his girlfriend too on miles so I am sure it's indeed possible.

Cheers,
Kaz

SQ is VERY tight with FF tickets, upgrades, RTW space. etc.. I do not know if they are more flexible with their own high FF customers or not,

The EWR-SIN-EWR route is operated by the A345 service, which is configured in a two class service : Raffles Class or Executive Economy. There is no First Class service available for the sector.

A few months ago, I planned a trip this March to SIN (from FRA), wanted to fly SQ Business Class and pay by LH bonus miles. So I called and they gave me several options I could chose from, no sweat at all! I didn't fly but that had other reasons, but generally speaking this should work quite nicely!

Mind you, that LH guy on the fon even suggested to fly SQ, not LH Big grin Big grin Big grin
I know it's only VfB but I like it!

I couldn't tell you about F class, but my mother and I are going back to HKG and SIN at the end of May on SQ in Raffles class. I wouldn't say that they are that inflexible with their partner's ff miles. Then again, I don't know the exact details. If I use my UA ff miles and get booked on SQ, does UA then pay SQ the cost of the seat...or at least a portion of it? How does the Star...or other alliances work this out for ff award travel.

Anyway, back to what I was saying. We just booked the tickets only a couple of weeks ago via UA. The person at the 1K call center was very helpful and after being unable to find anything available for us on United, checked SQ and offered us business class seats all the way (UA for domestic from DSM-DEN-LAX and from SFO-ORD-DSM and SQ on the Int'l routes from LAX-NRT-SIN, SIN-HKG, and HKG-SFO) for the saver rate of 90,000 miles! Quite a nice deal for such a late booking! I realize that the routing is a few hours longer, but we get to fly SQ! Not to knock UA's service as I really like their int'l premium products, but we were amused when the UA rep. kept apologizing to us that she would have to put us on SQ! So, I don't know if this was UA being flexible, SQ being flexible, or both, but they do allow quite a bit of ease.

I had no problems booking SQ F FRA-JFK through miles with bmi or Lufthansa although I did later cancel the ticket due to other commitments. SQ are pretty tight and if you are hoping to use miles on SQ or any other airline I'd book as soon as you know the dates, thats what I did, although it didn't pay off for me personally!

If you are PPS Club Solitaire, it can be made easier to book in F and J. For example, recently last year I was awarded three seats in J to London from Auckland, and just after that two seats in F to London from Sydney. Not my FF account though  Smile. Someone in the family.

PPS Club Solitaire members are treated really well and are given amazing flight choices and preferences.

Good luck to anyone trying to book FF seats  Smile!
