Largest Scheduled A/C At HPN?

Fri Apr 08, 2005 6:34 am

Does anyone know what the largest scheduled airliner operated into HPN was?

I did a little research and my guess is AA's 738.

Any ideas?

AA now only uses CRJ-700s to HPN. The last 738 flight was this past Saturday.

I can't believe they allow those things into HPN given the ueber strict slot rules....but they do!

2 questions:

1) How did FlyI get the slots at HPN to operate?

2) Why hasn't AA atarted HPN-MIA?

AA787-
FlyI had the slots already when they operated as UAX- the flights simply became DH flights instead... As for the AA service, I have no idea. Shame about AA going CR7 only- I fly out of HPN frequently, and was excited about the possibility of seeing an MD-80 there- if only to piss off the idiots who bought those houses right off the departure end of RWY16.

Ok so historically, what was the largest scheduled a/c at HPN?

I think the AA 738 wins for (now) historic scheduled airline service. I've seen pictures of Bac 1-11s there, and I know UAL used to have 735 flights before 9/11, but both are smaller than the AA service. If you go into the WestAir Hangar over on the GA side of the field, they have old aerial photos of the airport in the lounge that show KC-97s, and I think there's even one with a B-47 or two on the ramp. Not sure if that counts though.

Nice to see my airport on here! HPN is a great little airport .. but does anyone know how it does in terms of loads, etc? Why did AA downgrade from a 738 to a CRJ?

HPN...Great Airport??? Hmmm......nice terminal altleast. With the 738 gone bubye from HPN it's going to be fun to see all the Airpass/Executive platinum, platinum, and all the rest of the AAdvantage members are going to react without their upgrades.

As for the S80/MD80's it can make it into HPN (albeit weight restricted, which wouldn't be a big problem since the loads on the 738 weren't all that great) but it's too long to park at the gates at HPN and not extend out to the taxiway in front of the terminal (738: 129ft 6in vs. S80: 147ft 10in). So the largest has to be NW DC-9, then Mesaba's RJ85, then MQ CRJ 700.
