Tue Apr 12, 2005 12:28 am

According to its website, Air Madrid will open the following routes in August:
  • Tenerife-EZE
  • Tenerife-CCS
  • LPA-EZE

Check it out: http://www.airmadrid.com/portada.do

Would it be TFN or TFS?

Santa Barbara airlines and Iberia already operate flights from Caracas to the Canaries. Air madrid is a nice addition though! Especially so for EZE!

Air Madrid is also increasing its frequencies to Colombia from 2 to 3 times weekly MAD-BOG-CTG-MAD.

Iberia no longer flies between Sur Sofia and CCS. They Dropped it early last year. I don't know that there's so much traffic to warrant two airlines flying the route. One flight is probably enough, maybe two but with smaller 757 type equipment. SB Airlines has reported that in 2003, they transported approximately 20,000 passengers (round trip), which is roughly (estimated guess) about 205 passenger per weekly flight (Guess!). For the month of December, SB Airlines will increase the flight to two a week to respond to the higher demand that is generally associated with the ethnic market, such as this route.

So happy to hear that Air Madrid will start serving Bolivia. Apparently, IB just doesn't have enough planes to start developing new destinations. Very good news for the Bolivian community living in Spain, which according to some estimates numbers 50,000. However, I hope that this put preasure on LAB to add frequencies to their weekly MAD flight and to perhaps add service to Ecuador via its new partner Ecuatoriana de Aviacion.

After what I have just read, Air Madrid must be the airline of choice for those suffering from Anorexia Nervosa seen as no complimentary food is served even on flights to Buenos Aires!

Food is served, only you have to pay for it, that's all.

it seems much more that AirMadrid is the airline for guest-workers and there familys in Spain that can not spend all there money on expensive airlines.

They do. For summer season they are increasing to two weekly flights. They will be operating Mo and Th VVI-MAD 22:55-16:25+
and onTu/Fr MAD-VVI 22:55-06:05+.
BTW: Cool thing that both departure times are the same - easy to remember for the passengers...

Interesting, thank you.

But what kind of traffic they would carry to EZE? Connecting also to Madrid?

There may be a Canarian community in Argentina but still small I think. Also holidays? with the weak peso it is not like before meaning less Argentines that can take holidays abroad.

Hey it's good to hear that we have yet another european airline landing in CCS, especially after losing both BA and KL in recent months.

What a/c will Air Madrid use between Tenerife and CCS? This sure brings some competition to the CCS-TFN-CCS market.... but I think Santa Barbara will manage to hold on to its marketshare, they managed to make IB discontinue the route.

They seem to be doing pretty well these days. If they do expand and open new long-haul routes what equipment are they likely to order? More A346s? A330s? A350s are rumoured. Have they completely turned their backs on the 777 in all its guises?
