CX 250 - LHR - HKG On Time Departure, 12 Hour Late

Tue Apr 12, 2005 1:00 pm

Hi everyone,

Just checked on CX website, the CX 250 due to arrive HKG on the afternoon of 12th April was running late for about 14 hours and is now due to arrive HKG at 4 am 13th April. But the aircraft was on time departing LHR according to CX website. Does anyone know what happened on this? Did they divert somewhere for some reasons? Appreciate any feedbacks, thanks!

Thanks for your feedback! But it seems very strange to have done so, I bet it would be something technical, otherwise the delay will not be that long.
Anyone please supply some information, would be greatly appreciated!

I think the plane was overflying Denmark and then crew decided to return to LHR.

My dad was on that flight, will provide details later today when he arrives on CX254.

My dad said they returned due to "engine trouble", and fire engines accompanied the aircraft after landing.

The reason of delay is due to #3 engine EGT and vibration exceeded limit after takeoff. The pilots shut down the engine & return to LHR.

Thanks, and now the flight arrived HKG at 5 am in the morning of 13th April - it is 15 hours delay.

Seems the engines of 744 at CX are not really well maintained. It has been quite a number of times already.

I'd say it illustrates just how hard CX works their 744's rather than any maintenance shortfalls on their part.

Hi N949WP,

Do you mean that they utilize their fleet in an unusual high rate?

I am also in Hong Kong, shall we talk through email?

Cheers!

Musapapaya, CX did utilize their fleet so much. Their B744's utilization has more than 15 hours per day.

Quoting Aeroyu (Reply 10):

are you saying that planes don't fly more than 15hour a day?

And may I ask what the industry standard (average) is for 744s? Is 15 hours utilization that much?

Seems that it's not only the problem of CX 744s, BA 744s has the same problem of utilization. Can anyone give more details?

Yes, and LH is also famous for its high efficiency. Do they utilize their aircraft very highly as well? Waiting for comments. Cheers.
