Britannia Emergency Landing In Turkey

Thu Apr 14, 2005 12:25 am

I have just heard from my father in Istanbul, Turkey that BA Flight 072 from AUH-LHR made an emergency landing at Trabzon(TZX) Turkey. Don't have the reason for emergency landing yet, but I'll appreciate if anyone has the info and post it here. I'll post as soon as I hear something.

Saw this elsewhere...

"Just heard on the wireless that a British aircraft diverted to an airfield in Turkey en-route to CPH and was seen to have smoke coming from the cockpit on landing. Sounds pretty dramatic and glad it wasn't me. I trust the cockpit crew are OK."

According to a credible news website in Turkey, The 777 heavy landed in TZX due to heavy smoke in the cockpit, the plane landed safely with fire trucks accompanying the plane to a safe spot at the airport.
How can that be have any of you guys heard that before, heavy smoke in cockpit?  Confused

AFAIK it's a Britannia 767. BA dont normally fly 777 to CPH either =).

Swedish newspaper Aftonbladet reports that a Britannia Nordic flight BLX946 on the route HKT-AUH-CPH-ARN made an emergency landing in Turkey today due to smoke in cockpit.

Link to the article only in Swedish:

That flight is operated with a B767-300 and it was probably G-OBYH as it's the only 767-300 assigned to Britannia Nordic this winter season.

The website in Turkish said its going to CPH so that means its definetly not A BA flight. Need to change the thread subject.
My apologies since it was reported as a BA Flight in the beginning at the news agency website.

I think your source is better since its a sweden based carrier.

Scanwing, thanks for the clarification. I was about to point out that it would have been a bit odd for BA072 to have diverted and still landed at LHR almost 20mins early or for a BA flight to CPH to divert to Turkey.....that would have been a rather strange diversion with many other closer alternative.

Sounds like everyone on the aircraft is safe and that's the most important thing.

Sorry for asking this but how do I edit/change the thread title. Don't want to get bashed for the BA and Britannia mix up(due to the news website I might add)  Smile
