Air America Scheduled Flights? TriStars?

Fri Apr 15, 2005 4:02 am

In the Feb-March 1988 North Amer OAG they show Air America TriStars (code GM) flying SFO-HNL, LAX-HNL and also DTW-LAS and flights to Pago Pago among other things. No pics in the database; did they actually exist?

I too would like to know about them--they did exist--I remember seeing their L1011 at LAS back in March 1989 at Concourse C alongside an AA DC10. I didn't venture over to see where it was going (regret that). In fact I need to find those old photos I took from that trip, SYDC10s, Air America L10, AA DC10, UA DC-8, and Midway (can't remember if it was a 732 or MD80 I saw).

Yes they did they ran charter flights from DTW to LAS, flew them once and for a charter carrier they were OK, they did not end up being around for any great length of time if I remember correctly though.

Air America was a Los Angeles based charter airline using L-1011's.

Started initially as Total Air in the early 80s doing mostly charters to Hawaii. Later was renamed as Air America in 86 or 87. Ran worldwide passenger and military charters, along with selling some scheduled service seats on several mainland-Hawaii routes primarily.
Went BK and shutdown early 1990.

Lots of pics in the database.

First as Total Air.

What was with the Eastern color scheme but with red colors? Lack of imaginations?

Hm-- when I search the database by airline there's no Air America. Wonder why those pics don't show up?

The OAG shows them flying out of SFO, but I sure never saw them. Anyone else?

Some one managed to get a shot at SFO. The caption notes they flew SFO-HNL regularly.
