LH B744s With New Biz Class Seats

Fri Apr 15, 2005 4:42 pm

Hi,

does anyone actually know the registrations of the five 744s with have been fitted (resp. are currently being fitted) with the new Business Class seats? I've seen from some pics that three 744s have been passing through XMN lately for D-checks and apparently will be getting the new seats - those were ABVH, ABVK and ABVW. So, anybody knows about the other two and maybe for on which routes they will be deployed?

Thanks for any info.

As far as I know the whole project is put on hold for the time being, as they were experiencing even worse technical problems than with the new IFE on the A340.

Are they still refitting their A340-300s? I don't wont to fly the old C-class MUC-LAX this June.

If it's any help, I was at LH Technik in FRA on Monday where ABVE was in for a check (C or D, not sure which). I'm no expert on the different types of LH cabins, but we were told she was being fitted with the new interior. Apparently they are having quite a few problems installing FlyNet, in the words of the engineer, 'Everything is set up, and nobody knows why it isn't working'. Perhaps this is adding to the delays?

@ LHB727230Adv: You will be able to enjoy the new C-Class on your MUC-LAX flight very likely. On MUC-LAX LH uses 2-class A340-300 with the new C-Class. Registrations are D-AIGB, D-AIGC, D-AIGD, D-AIGF, D-AIGH, D-AIGI. Other routes for this aircrafts are MUC-PEK/DEL/HKG/PVG/NRT/THR.

That's a relief, thank you. Can't wait to experience the new C-class.

Don't get too excited. Yes, you've got a lot more room, but the seats themselves are not all that comfortable. The flat bed configuration is very low to the ground, and at enough of an angle that you tend to slide down. Also, if you are tall and like to sleep on your side, try for the first row of the cabin. In all other rows, the space for your feet is under the seat in front of you, and it can be a tight fit if you're tall. The other thing is if you are in an aisle seat, be careful of getting bumped by passers-by. In the flat position, the outside armrest collapses flush with the seat, so there is no barrier between yourself and the aisle.
It's been swell, but the swelling has gone down.

I flew on the A333 a month ago and it was nice, but the IFE wasn't fully functional. No internet, and not AVOD at the time and that is with a brand new airplane!

Check out the trip reports for the new cabin if you are curious: Star To Europe Part 1 IND-MXP (w/New LH Bus.) Pics (by RoseFlyer Mar 12 2005 in Trip Reports) MUC-KUL New Lufthansa Business Class Lots Of Pics (by Skippy777 Jan 17 2005 in Trip Reports)
If you have never designed an airplane part before, let the real designers do the work!

ABVE was the first to get the reconfig. It was completed in Hamberg in January.

Interesting but doesn´t this hinder LH operations in terms of flexibility? For example a FRA-NRT flight would have to leave late just because LAX-FRA is having a delay and there´s no substitute that is equipped with the new C-Class...
However it´s good to hear that installation of the new interior has finally begun on the 744s.

It's really just a matter of preference. I personally love the new seats. I have flown them three times now and it just keeps getting better. The On-Demand video is now working on most of the flights as well as FlyNet (at least in the A343 and A333's I flew in). As for the seats themselves, I find them very very comforatable - and not to mention very high-tech and modern looking. You are able to manipulate the position in so many ways that you can always find a comfortable position. Also, I have sat at an aisle seat every time and don't remember ever being bumped (maybe it was just luck). The seats are a little low, but you get used to that. My only small complaint would be that they are a little narrower than the old seats, but that really didn't bother me. Last time I flew with the new seat the flight was over 10 hours and I honestly didn't want to get off the plane.

Thanks for the warnings, but I still can't wait. I'll send in a trip report after the flight. I hope all goes well and the IFE will be fully operational.
