Why Is USAirways The Only One With....

Mon Apr 10, 2000 9:00 am

........an online store?

I was just messing around the site and discovered the company store. From aircraft models to T-shirts to pens to mousepads, the store has everything "U" could ever want. Why is US the only major airline that has one of these? Doesn't the cost of having such a vast product line outweigh the money made on the two to three items
sold each day?

NWA has one, it's hard to find though. The best way is to look through the site index.

Thanks for the tip Steve!

I think I will take a NWA shot glass while I'm at it.
(Not kidding, NW really sell shotglasses on their website)

I don't know, but I sure would like to see allt he others step up and do it... There are a number of collectors out there who would gladly buy posters, magazines, and other misc. stuff!

I wrote to National Airlines last summer, and they indicated that they were considering an online store when the airline was more established, but to date I haven't seen anything new.

USAir once had a store with USAir logo items at several hub airports. I'm positive of DCA and LGA, but I'm sure other northeast hubs as well. I never understood how they could keep it open because someone had to man it and they had to pay lease for it to the airport, but it evetually closed.

I can see why they have it online now. It costs nothing to have it on their website, and they need to produce the things anyway for promotions and employees.

I'm an owner of a USAir hat from the USAir store in DCA.

America West's online store address is:

www.awacompanystore.com

You can also access the company store through the America West home page, which is www.americawest.com, but going directly to the company store through www.awacompanystore.com is much easier.

AA has one too. If you go to www.aa.com, it's under "licensed merchandise" under "products and services". Although U has a bigger selection of stuff.

Back a few years ago when there was a store in CLT,I remember when the die-cast DC-3's painted in USAirways predecessor paint schemes came out a few years ago. Employees in CLT must've bought about a thousand of them, especially Piedmont. Everyone was carrying big boxes on the way out to the parking lots. Real nice pieces. Got mine!

From time to time CO has sold a few items on their website, but nothing compared to what they carry in their employee stores at IAH, HQS,(CO's internal code for its Smith St. headquarters in downtown Houston) EWR, and CLE.
