US Selling $2+ Tax To/fro AVL, HHH, ART, LEB

Sun Apr 17, 2005 3:20 am

US is currently offering tickets to/from AVL, HHH, ART, and LEB for many points in the USA with a base fare of $2, plus taxes (total comes to approx. $40). Fare seems valid for travel at least through the next month or so, and is available through both travelocity and usairways.com.

Is this a mistake of some sort Avek? I mean LEB-LAX for $2 (if avail) is ridiculous!

Unless US has worked out some deal with Travelocity for the latter to absorb the per ticket GDS fee, US will be paying travelers who ticket this fare to use their service. ...talk about buying load factors and market share at any price -- in the most literal sense!

I'm seeing the fares out of LEB, but I'm not being able to get any availability...

Too bad it's not MHT...I'd do a few mileage runs to get back to Silver...would only be about $300, which is really good for elite status...heck, if I were motivated, $1000 or so for Chairman's (not that I'd ever use it).

Just tried calling US Airways reservations after not being able to book the fare online.

B*tchy res. agent who answered the phone (and, granted, has probably been answering this question all morning) said "someone" loaded the fare by mistake but it's been zeroed out and no tickets were ever sold at that price.

A fun thought while it lasted...

She's lying on the no tickets were sold part - based off of a thread at Flyertalk.com, and nonscientific empirical load observations, US has sold hundreds if not thousands of these tickets since at least 5am EST today.

... and they are coming back unconfirmed ......

We tried this earlier on our GDS and if you IR the record a few times, they come back "UC" status instead of HK.

don't trust travelocity bookings till you get ticket numbers.

I don’t trust any tickets until I am buckled into a seat and the plane is taxing down the runway.

Some mileage runners got some killer deals here.

in regards to fares being loaded wrong, it takes up to 4 hours after the update to ATPCO to cross over to all GDS's... while we (at USX) couldn't book these tickets, you could possibly still get these on other systems...

I just tried booking SFO-LEB on Orbitz and had gone through all of the steps including seat selection and credit card number and when I hit the last button it came back and said the fare had gone up. It started at $225.00 r/t and by the time I had jumped to the last step, it was $819.00. I guess I wasn't meant to go to Lebanon, NH over July 4 weekend. I was happy with a $225.00 r/t fare. Oh well.

We got a memo today that USAir will not be honoring these tickets.... not sure how they plan on enforcing this... but if anyone did book this, I'd call to reconfirm!

This fare was loaded into the system by mistake and has since been removed. From what I understand, the fare was loaded but not the inventory to back it up.

US has sold *thousands* of these tickets according to US personnel in the know - in fact, an associate of mine is flying on a $2 ART ticket as we speak, and he bought 5 more at the time he purchased this trip.

After all, US is going to honor the tickets. I assume any reservation with a 24-hour time limited ticketing hold will not be honored at that fare.

Following is a link to today’s article in the Charlotte Observer. Site requires http://www.bugmenot.com

Avid fare-watchers say errors in ticket prices occur several times a year.

People often find the glitches by using a feature on travel site Travelocity.com known as a "dream map," which allows users to see where they can fly from a given city and at what fare.

Other readers of FlyerTalk posted their successes, including a Jacksonville, Fla., traveler who bought seven tickets to Lebanon for $269 over the July Fourth weekend for a Maine family vacation.

According to the article below, US will honor the tickets that were purchased; there was indeed a problem on their end.

http://cbsnewyork.com/finance/finance_story_108114716.html

Since the reason for the snafu was due to a computer glitch, my question would be, "What was the original or intended fares supposed to be... $200?"
