New D-Gate Expansion Now Open At LAS!

Sun Apr 17, 2005 5:00 am

We officially opened the new D-Gate expansion at LAS yesterday (4.15.05) without a hitch. Currently only B6 is operating there at gates 16 and 18. CO will start operations on 4.29.05 at gates 19, 20, and 21, with AS starting 5.4.05 at gates 25 and 26.

Good News, although security lines will now be even worse going to the D gates.

This is true. But, A-B Gates should be a little better for awhile. That is until WN takes over a few of the B-Gates.

It's too bad that they are so far away. AS is instituting a 45 minute
cutoff rule. If you aren't leaving the counter 45 minutes prior to departure,
you're not going.

LAS is a business traveller's nightmare - the security lines are long and chaotic, particularly for the C and D gates. If WN is going to move flights to B, I'd hate to be a connecting passenger trying to get from B to C in less than 90 minutes, you'd never make it. While moving through a 45 minute security line on Friday, it occurred to me that someone from Ontario or Burbank or LAX could probably drive faster from the strip to their house, than fly, given the amount of time it takes to traverse that airport.

Bring a cane.

Agreed – McCarran at some times can be an absolute nightmare.

After all, Las Vegas is the number two destination in the US (after Orlando).

LAS is a beautiful airport a destination in and of itself. I really love it.

I must admit although security lines are long and timely, the TSA in LAS are good, much better than I've seen elsewhere. The video monitors with the briefing are an excellent touch, they should do this at more airports.

Here's a few tips for LAS travelers: If your plane departs at 1:45 be OUT of the hotel and on your way by noon. DO NOT get a taxi to the airport unless you are leaving two hours before departure - I've stood in line for cabs for over 30 minutes at check-out time. DO NOT take the airport shuttles they stop at like 46 hotels - it will take you forever to get there.

Best bet: Find someone to share a ride with to LAS in a Towncar they cost $29.00, which is about 15.00 per person, cheaper than a cab.

its a shame they dont do something for actual business travelers, with service to the other airport.

My understanding is that a connecting bridge will be built between the B Gates and C Gates beyond security before WN moves any operations over to the B Gates.

Any idea if the International Terminal will be ever connected to the rest of the airport via walkway or tram? Then they could call them the "E" Gates!

This is true. Construction date is still off a ways, but the plans are looking good. Our main concentration is the baggage nodes that are being built now. After those are done, then we can work on the bridge.

There are no plans as of right now to connect the 2 terminals. We are however just finishing up a large remodel of the International Terminal. Terminal 3 plans are being finalized and should be started here in the near future.

Thanks. I am taking this as a compliment since I was the lead on that project. Look for more "movies" very soon!

2travel2know: There real is no need to connect the INT terminal with the domestic terminal. I think the amount of connecting passengers from INT to DOM at LAS can be counted on 1 hand. Not to mention that would be one long connecting walkway for such little traffic.

Yes, that's for sure.

Maybe, when I was there two weeks ago they were very inconsistent and short on those gray tubs so people couldnt put backpacks or anything in a bin, just the opposite of CID where I departed from. Also they asked everyone that wasn't wearing tennis shoes to remove there shoes, again just the exact opposite of CID. Anyways, some guy was yelling and I couldn't understand what the hell he was saying. Then some asshole cuts in line and about 10 Tsa agents come running over and knock him to the ground.

It is nice, but I don't think many people actually watch them. Also that Yogi Bear thing?? Who came up with that? It's on about every 10 minutes.

HP doesn't offer international to domestic connections there, are they flying LAS <> MEX ?
I say with a walkway the airport could have the International Terminal gates available for domestic departures/arrivals.. as they say "save for a rainy day" not that it rains that much in LAS  Smile

I still have to disagree. HP connections from Mexico are limited. Mostly directed via PHX. The LAS service is for LAS bound people. You just can't justify a multi million dollar walkway for a few flights a day. Bus's are just much easier, this of course just my opinion.

Good. Now maybe Allegiant can get a couple more gates at the D terminal. Having only 2 full time gates really cramps your style.
natch!!

True.

A good chunk is O&D, but you get a lot of connecting on WN and HP from the Socal area to the east coast, LAS is a very convient place to change planes from that area.

No, but HP (Mesa) is flying LAS-PVR,SJD,YVR,YEG; and Mainline to YYC and YYZ.

UMM...Since when? Doesn't that statistic go something like (1)NYC (2) Chicago...etc with Vegas and Orlando further down the list?

That hasn't been the case for quite sometime. Chicago definately doesn't have more visitors than Las Vegas and Orlando--that is not even logical.

What's the deal with security at LAS? I believe there are 3 security stations at the D gates, but only one is usually in use. This seems strange because I wait about twenty minutes each time I fly out of that damn place...

Can you provide a link to some info about the rank of cities in the U.S. in terms of O&D numbers.
