What are the requirments to make the list? Seems to me MSP's facilities are a bit dated compared other major hubs, like DTW.

I'll agree, KIX and HKG are very nice airports.

Although I'm surprised that it made it so high up the list because of all the complaints it seems to get for transit facilities (complaints mostly from the frequent flyer clientele that tend to be targeted by these surveys), It's good to see KIX do well. It's a great airport.

While the WorldGateway at DTW may be better than MSP, keep in mind that there's the other terminal at Detroit (forgot its name...Smith?) where the other airlines use that, from what I've heard, isn't Airport of the Year material. So MSP is probably better overall. Also, this probably factors in customer service and airport services which MSP has an excellent reputation for. I could see YVR and DEN as other leading North American airports.

msp is a fantastic airport. i think msp also beats the world terminal at detroit. in detroit the food is horrible and the terminal, while new, isn't that nice to be in. the rest of the detroit airport is also a pit. it is absolutely awful. not quite as bad as the old nw terminal used to be, but its horrible.

as far as bad airports, i would say iad is up there mostly because the terminal g regional terminal is essentially a bus station. also the c terminal is pretty bad. bwi is also a terrible airport.

I don't mean to rain on the parade of some prideful MSP civic booster... hey, MSP is a nice enough airport... but neither DTW nor MSP are ever going to hold a candle to any of the truly great international airports: HKG, SIN, KIX, DXB, KLL, ICN... the new Centrair in NGO is quite nice, too. I'm looking forward to the replacement for BKK (whenever that will actually open).

In North America I'd have to agree that DEN and YVR are pretty good facilities, and would add the new terminal at YYZ, too. The new International terminal at SFO is nice, but there's not enough traffic to keep the shops and restaurants humming.

I'm really surprised DEN didn't even make the list. This is such a beautiful airport all the way around. And MIA should have definately been up there (just kidding.....what a dump!!!)

As a Brit who's lived in HK for about the last 11 years, I have to agree that asian airports (and for that matter airlines and hotels) are streets ahead of what's offered in the US or Europe (I travel a lot and am becoming picky in my "old age") as a rule.

Still miss the (organised?) chaos of Kai Tak sometimes though...
