Current And Future Of SQ744?

Sun Apr 17, 2005 1:07 pm

I know that SQ has sold a lot of 744s in the past few years, but not fully sure who are their buyers. Here are my questions:

1) Apart from Cathay Pacific, Air Pacific, Iberia, Air India, any more buyers?
2) What are the future of those stored 744s like 9V-SMA and 9V-SMH?
3) Will B-HKD, B-HKE and B-HKF be passenger aircraft or Cargo? Will they keep using PW engine or switch to RR?
4) Any future plan of SQ to sell more of their 744s?

If possible, please provide a full list of the 744s that have been sold and will be sold.

Cheers,
Carl

Singapore Airlines has sold its oldest B 747-400s. I doubt they have plans to sell anymore. The current ones will probably stay until at least 2010.

They still operate 26+ B 747-400s I think.

Hope they will go for the B 747 Advanced.

The ones sold to Cathay Pacific will remain PW engined. Some will be converted to freighters while others will remain as passenger aircraft

Eventually the 777-300ER/ 380 will replace the 747-400s. I doubt SQ are in the market for 747 Advanced. The newest 747-400 is only 2-3 years old so the current fleet of 747-400 will still be around for quite a while.
Airliners is the wings of my life.

Carl - Another operator is El Al's 4X-ELS which is ex-SIA 9V-SMQ. My list on ninervictor.com has a somewhat updated list of SQ aircraft.

United Airline - The oldest SIA B747-400 9V-SMB is still in SIA's fleet inventory though it has been leased to Air Pacific.

I thought SMA is the oldest one. 15 years old? Not very old to be honest.

From what I heard these A 380/B777-300ER will be used for expansion. The current B 747-400 fleet will probably stay for a while

I suppose there is a market for the B 747 Advanced. There is a gap between the A 380 and the B 777-300ER. Besides the B 747 Advanced can carry more passengers. SQ is always interested in new aircraft. Let's see.
