It also seems like there can be NEVER enough people who get anamored about the A380. Don't worry dude, likewise I got into the band Led Zepplin in the past few years and they were around before I was born.

Awe...how cute.

Im still waiting to for the first sheduled serrvice with this thing. I have now saved the money for an F seat rtn on SQ to SIN from LHR. lets hope I have another reason to go to Singapore in 2006 to make it look good.

Friends and family think I'm mad, but I have no regrets on shelling out £450 on concorde in the early 1990's, I would do it all over again.

Keep the A380 news coming.

Something I wonder if anyone else noticed. In the picture below, what's missing??? If you are going to carry so many passengers, don't you need room for carry on luggage?? Take a close look above the center seating. If there are bins there, no one of average height could get to them. Just a little thought...

Erm..... Well I can see bins  yes  - they're those big white things slightly dipping over the centre seats, and presumably there are similar units over the side seats......?  spin

It IS a mock-up after all - no doubt the final cabin fittings will be "tweaked" by the individual airlines to their own taste anyway.

this is similar to the 777. The only difference is that they will be a push button type that will automatically retract up. The bins will probably be bigger if not, they will still have stowage under the seats as well.

It is indeed quite high also on the 340!

I like that system on the 777!
It only rumbles a bit on T/O (or so I remember in 1995 on the first 777 in commercial use!N777UA from LHR to IAD)

Actually..... I believe that the cabin mockup doesn't have centre bins installed. If you look carefully you can see that the centre PSUs are at about the same height as the top of the outboard bins. I'll have a look for the image I've seen elsewhere that shows this better.

Haha, a nice page overall...but one bit made me laugh in particular:

"Fewer flights which carry more people result in reduced fuel costs and landing fees at airports."

What they havent mentioned is the MILLIONS that only a select number of airports have shelled out to be able to handle this beast in order for it to be able to fly there.

Hey, I am 5'9" tall, and when seated on a 767/777 cannot reach the reading light, air flow, etc. I can also barely get my laptop case into the overhead. Now, I'm not short, frail nor particularly old -- how are elderly people/handicapped people/short people going to handle this? For the most part, flight attendants will not lift stuff (nor should they), nor should passengers be forced to give up leg room to stuff everything under the seat in front of them. There are those of us who check luggage, and want a comfortable flight due to that, yet, we are penalized by those who do not check their luggage

Maybe not quite the appropriate forum here, however, the new airbus seems to have the same failings as the other airbuses and the boeing planes -- give us passengers some thought here please. Of course, I could never check anything, and get someone to lift anything/everything for me -- since I'm almost always in first class, is that fair? All I do is hold up the rest of the passengers

But seriously, this ought to be interesting to see:

... Beyond flight tests, the A380 crew must also prove it can evacuate 873 people in 90 seconds in case of an emergency...

I bet it would be quite a ride down from the second deck... whee...

Good point about the upper deck slides. Current slides have proven quite dangerous because of the speed passengers build up, before they hit the concrete. Sliding from the upper deck should be even worse. I wonder if anyone has used the upper deck slide on a 747 in an emergency and what happened?

Here we go, here is a poor-quality scan of the image I was thinking of. It appeared in the 12 April issue of Flight, and accompanied an article (Production-standard A380 mock-up revealed) that confirmed that the cabin mockup (both decks) was production-standard, although with no centre bins in economy class. Aparently airlines have a choice between fixed and articulated bins.

Not sure if this was discussed, but presumably the photo in question was of the front section of the cabin. I know that some airlines decide not to put the centre bins in the premium cabins. Emirates A340-500 being an example. It just seems that for the photo they've put Y seats in it.

I just hope that the new A380 central overhead bins won't move as much as the ones on the A340/A330s during takeoff and turbulence.

I don't know about you, but those seats don't look all that spacious! I know it is a mock-up and all, but there doesn't appear to be any leg room. So, it looks like you might get to sit your luggage on your lap and use that as a tray table. I recommend a folly tube and bag for the long haul flights if you aren't in the isle.  Wink

The slides on the upper deck will be closed (like a tube) at the beginning so that the people jumping dont realize the height. They will be of a rubber that produces higher drag so that people should end their trip down at the same speed as those from the first level.

I personally can't wait to see this baby in the skies. This place will be on fire when we have the first pictures in the database. I definitely will be counting the beats, until then, I will gradually become to love the look of the A380 and hope that is accomplishes a safe trial flight.

That mock up picture really does show how huge she is, love the colour of those seats too! I also can't wait to fly on one. Doesn't look too spacious mind you!

Well, I personally like the fact these bins move a lot. However, I am far to be representative of the average pax, and I have noticed that many of them are actually scared by that. Even if these bins are perfectly safe, it doesn't send a positive signals to many passengers. On that aspect, I feel that the 777 cabin looks much "safer".

There must be a correlation between those who think this woman has great legs with those who are enamored with the A380 - both look quite chunky to me.

Presume many A380 fans also cruise the 'plumpers' sites as well??

Well I've seen the 777 bins moving quite a bit, and in the opposite direction of the seats. They are attached to the ceiling, while the seats (and galleys etc...) are attached to the floor, so as the fuse moves... Quite noticeable with bins close to the galleys. But I see your point. However I don't think this will change. Attaching the bins anywhere else would be a costly and heavy exercise.
