Jetblue Expansion - Possible?

Wed Apr 20, 2005 5:21 pm

G'day

I was just reading about Jetblue and their expansion plans - this from their website:

"68 Airbus A320 aircraft , all powered by International Aero Engines (IAE) V2500 engines
JetBlue has orders with Airbus for a fleet of as many as 233 A320 aircraft and has placed an order with Embraer for a fleet of up to 200 EMBRAER 190 aircraft. The first EMBRAER 190 aircraft will be delivered in 2005."

To me this sounds like an EK expansion plan. Where is Jetblue going to fly to with all these planes (I know they are probably not all orders, but anyway..). Also are they making money on their current service and routes?

Thanks!

hey- I thought I'd make this thread active again so we could all discuss it some more. Acoordin to jetBlue's website, jetBlue will be the launch customer for the Embraer ERJ-190, and will recieve their delievery for the "mid-size jet" in fall of 2005. Maybe this means jetblue will be expanding into JAX (?)!!

I have a question, though:

-- Will these new jetblue ERJs have the same PTVs/IFE that the A320s do?

To me this sounds like an EK expansion plan.

EK is adding capacity equal to the entire fleet of B6's competitor. Take every seat WN flies, and thats how many EK will add in the next decade.

Compared to EK... jetBlue is being down-right conservative  Wink

The ability to install IFE was one of the factors that influenced B6 toward the E-jets

A mix of newer, thinner markets and capacity adjustement on existing routes. The beauty of the E190 is it's service compatible with the A320, unlike other "RJs" like the CRJ. In fact, the E190 is not an RJ at all.

I think they posted a slight loss in 2004-Q4 and a slight profit in 2005-Q1. In other words: fluxuating. Not bad considering the state of the industry and cost out of their control. B6 finances are stable and in order.

THEY ARE NOT ERJ"S!!!! They are bigger than little regional jets, they are mainline.

Anyway I hope to see more Florida Expansion and more on the east coast and mid-west.

JAX, PNS, MIA, MLB (?), MYR (?), RDU, CLT, ORF, DTW, ORD, STL, SAT, AND CURRENT: Austin - Bergstrom International (AFB) (AUS / KBSM), USA - Texas">AUS, HOU/IAH (?), DFW (?).... AND MORE

Now I never though of it that way, but you are right. That is In-f'ing-sane considering that WN is one of the largest airlines in the world.

I don't believe they have posted a loss since starting ops. Their profits have been down, owing largely to higher debt loads taken on by recent orders, but they are definately doing fine

They are actually DC9 sized, and I don't think anyone calls those RJs

I apologize.. they're actually called "E" jet's.. so I guess it's an E-190.

I would really like to see B6 expand more on the West coast. I love flying them, but I live in San Diego so my only options on them are to IAD or JFK.

ZOTAN - If you go to JFK, youu can connect to anywhere jetblue flies.

Just My 2 Cents

Not sure where you're getting this - the press release for 4Q and full year 2004 shows a net income for 4Q/04 of $2.4 million.

The big question is where the next JetBlue hub/focus city will be - JFK is the center of their current operation, BOS is building at a quick pace, and the LGB focus city is maxed-out due to slot limitations. Will JetBlue establish a hub in the midwest or will they remain focused on the connecting northeast US cities with the west coast, FLorida and the caribbean?

There are many possibilities, the problem is that as JetBlue moves westward, they eventually will have to directly compete with SouthWest and other low fare carriers plus take-on the legacy carriers at their established hubs.

I said I think, which is more than open to correction. If Thaigold wanted a 100% sure answer, he shouldn't asked and should have looked them up on his own. The end result is the same: B6 is stable, they are neither raking in the cash nor bleeding through every orifice.

Yes, and the E-190 will have a great part of it.
They´ll prove that a LCC can have great service, serve smaller yelding routes and still make money.

Think we can expect more orders from the E-190 as B6 proves that the plane is good.
